Does anyone know what emissions equipment came on a 70s 350 4 BBL w/ manual tranny Chevy 1/2 ton truck?
I'm taking my 70 Cruzah to Alaska and it needs to have all the emissions junk on it for the motor that was transplanted into the truck. The Cruzah has a GM universal Crate 350 engine in it.
Alaska only exempts 67 an earlier from emmisions test, so my truck needs to be up to specs....

Some information for you...
You only need to meet emissions requirements if you will be living in the Anchorage Municipality, or in the Fairbanks region. Alaska as a whole does not require emissions. Where in AK are you headed?
Second, if you are going to be living in Anchorage, it doesn't matter if you get all the factory emission controls on the engine from a 70s half ton truck. Sorry to be bearer of bad news, but very few engine swaps are accepted up here. Yeah, it sucks. The only swaps they allow are newer engines from the same make/model vehicle. For example, swapping a 4.0L into a CJ is okay, putting a 5.7L TBI motor into a 70's Chevy is okay...etc. Dropping a chevy V-8 into a Toy' is not.
There are a few other options, like seasonal tags. If you going to be living within the Municipality of Anchorage and would like more information on the topic let me know. My brother is an IM test and repair tech., so I have access to good information. I can also help direct you to a clubs up here if you like.
(bumping because board is not showing thread as having any replies, wanted to make sure you saw the information ranger)

Thanks for the input, I was on vacation and didn't get a chance to look at my post. I will be moving to Elmendorf, which basically sits right next to Anchorage. The more research I do on this subject the bleaker it looks for me keeping my Cruzah. Looks as if I'm gonna have to sell it. This really sucks!!! If you could provide me with any additional info I would really appriciate it. Thanks!!!:skull:

Sorry I was slow to get back, haven't been on the board much lately.
Anyway, I re-read your post and realized your vehicle is old enough to make this a little simpler.
'68-'74 emmisions inspections are tail pipe only. This means the tech. only pops the hood to put a tach lead on (and count cylinders). But as long as your 350 is running clean enough, you'll pass. I really screwed up with my other post and made things sound worse.
Your other option is to go with seasonal tags. Air Quality problems here are due to climatic issues, the worst is during the winter. You can get a seasonal tag that lets you drive your vehicle from April 1st to Oct. 31st, and never have to get an emmisions inspection. You still pay the same registration fee though. That assumes you have a winter commuter.
Hope that helps.

Anytime I deal with the DMV I always get conflicting data. I was told that my Cruzah wouldn't pass the visual because it had a Chevy engine in it. You can only do engine swaps with engines that came as an option for the particular vehicle you have. Like, if your Cruzah had a 2F in it, you could only swap out the engine with a 2F. Since a 350 was never a factory option for Toyota's, I was told it is not a legal emissions swap..:(
I will probably sell my Cruzer, and get another one when I get up there. I'm sure I can find a diesel FJ45 in canada! :) :skull:

I completely hear you on getting conflicting information from the DMV. You could ask the same question 3 times, and get 3 different answers.
What they told you was right, but not the whole story. As I said before, an engine from a different make is not an allowable engine swap. And it would cause you to fail your visual inspection (very quickly).
But what I'm saying is a '70 does not require a visual inspection.
Breaks down like this
'67 and down : no emmisions requirements
'68-'74 : Tail pipe test only
'75 and up : Tail pipe and visual inspection (which includes functionality test).
There is also a side note now that '96 and up vehicles with OBDII do NOT need tail pipe test. Tech. only has to check to see if there are any codes. No codes = pass. But that's not applicable here anyway.
Point is, you don't have to worry about visual. But if you really want to get rid of it, and buy something else, I won't argue with that. I just want to be sure you don't sell it unwillingly because you feel you have to.
The DMV requires a vaild emmisions certification to register your vehicle, but their enforcement and control of the I/M program ends there. The I/M programs in Alaska is actually run by the Dept. of Health and Human Services. ( http://www.muni.org/health1/index.cfm ) That's where you should direct your techinical quesitions about emmsions equipment and engine swaps.
I hope that helps.
