Pavement Pounder83 02-16-2004, 02:34 AM got departure?
lefthand 02-16-2004, 07:30 AM Awesome work!! It looks good but, is it the picture or is the truck really tall? It looks like the hood is over 5' in the air. Obvioulsly the spring mounts are located higher on a mog axles and I'm sure this has something to do with it but, what kind of leaves are used up front and are there any plans to change this?
The urban wheeler 02-16-2004, 10:36 AM it is really that tall. of course i am about 5'7". i am going to drop it about 3". it has 2" pro comp's in the front that will be changed to 4-link and coil-overs once i get the rear dialed in.
Blazr77400 02-17-2004, 01:27 AM Were you going to run a traction bar up front during the test stages or just run without it till you do the 4 link?
Also, what were you going to do for steering?
Did you get your axles from Killeraxles?
The urban wheeler 02-17-2004, 11:23 PM i wasnt going to run a traction bar until i saw how much axle wrap i had. i think it will be ok but i dont know yet. it wont take me long to dial the rear. i already have hydro assist and im going to do high steer. i got my axles from a private seller for a good deal. i just had to drive 1200 miles to get them and it still was a deal. i did get the wheel hubs and brake brackets from Tibus Offroad. AKA killeraxles. Daniel was really good to deal with and has good prices and does awesome work. i cut and narrowed the housings myself.
Jim Johnson 02-18-2004, 08:30 AM looks great - I would like to see some more pics that have more light ( Pics look kinda dark?)......Keep us posted.....
SlamChops 02-18-2004, 06:16 PM awesome.. will that be the ride height or will it be any lower? looks kind of tall. any reason you narrowed the housing? just to keep it 'normal' fullwidth? just curious...
my blazer is so asking for mogs now.... maybe one day...:D
Pavement Pounder83 02-19-2004, 01:00 AM the wheel hubs make the axle wider. also the front axle was a driver side drop and he needed passenger. i believe the rear was off set a little too and he centered it up.

yacker711 02-19-2004, 04:42 PM That thing looks like junk!!!!
grants stuff is week
Yacker
The urban wheeler 02-19-2004, 06:15 PM yeah the wheel hubs made me i believe around 3 inches wider on each side and the rear was offset 3" to the pass side. therefore cutting the housing 6" centered the diff and put me back to fullwidth 67" . when i go to rear steer i will be 69.5" in the rear. the front was offset to the drivers side 3" so i had to cut 14" off the pass side and add 7" to the drivers side. the front housing is 40" wide and rear is 38" that way when i go to rear steer the truck will still be wider in the front which will help it track down the road. ride height is about 3" shorter than in the pic, but it is still a BIG truck. im not too worried about it it will be stable.
oh yeah Yacker ur a homo:flipoff2: get your junk done before the snow melts. later
yacker711 02-20-2004, 11:43 PM It will never be done!
The urban wheeler 02-23-2004, 09:12 AM i am making progress, tube bed started last week

The urban wheeler 12-22-2004, 10:28 PM heres a few of how it sits now... more to come
The urban wheeler 12-22-2004, 10:31 PM this is it for now, i have pics of the jigs i made to narrow the axles if anyonw wants to see them, also comparison of exaxt axles to d60's
blacksheep10 12-23-2004, 05:35 AM what is that in the last pic on the last post, don't know much about your axles (if that's what its for)
how are you going to limit the uptravel in the rear for the tanks?
I like it, excess at its best
4Mogger 12-23-2004, 07:36 AM The first time I've seen your thread. Everything is looking good! Are your axle shafts stock or Astralloy? The pic next to the D60 is very amusing!
I have Exaxt built axles with the Astralloy shafts all around. So your width at the rear is WMS to WMS about 67"?
The urban wheeler 12-24-2004, 03:05 AM the last pic is the supercharger im using, i am running unimog 404's, the up travel will be limited by the coilovers sitting on my couch, i am running astralloy shafts from exaxt the rear is set at 67 for now, i cut the rear housing 2" shorter than the front so that when i go to rear steer i will be 69.5" in the rear and 71.5" in the front. the shafts are soo much bigger than 60 stuff and that makes me feel good, now im just worried about splitting the portal boxes, i am going to re-enforce the boxes so that if the gears do strip the box wont explode.
4Mogger 12-24-2004, 06:19 AM I just saw that Exaxt now sells a reinforcement kit for the portal. haven't seen it yet.
American 12-24-2004, 12:44 PM The truck is perfect! with the exception of the heighth
4Mogger 12-26-2004, 07:05 PM Hey Buddy, What is this?
BigWoodyWag 12-26-2004, 07:16 PM Hey Buddy, What is this?
3 posts up for yours he says what it is! Fawking Read!
Its a Supercharger, one of the old school kind.
4Mogger 12-26-2004, 08:17 PM the last pic is the supercharger im using,
No shit!
I am looking for a little more info!
HickTrucksRus 12-27-2004, 01:55 PM Why did you angle the frame mounts for the upper links on the rear end soo much? Are you trying to limit down travel with suspension bind? OR is that just a way to get more flex out of the suspension? I have never seen mounts like that before.....
thanks
Pavement Pounder83 12-27-2004, 02:23 PM i forgot what kind of supercharger it is bit it came off a i think a 50s studibaker. good for about 7psi.
Drew
Jeff_Super_S 12-27-2004, 09:20 PM yeah I was a little curious about the tanks too. That is cool. I've never seen anyone inboard tanks on a 73-87. The only thing I was thinking is that is a lot of fuel for a wheeling truck. I think a Blazer tank or even a cell would have worked inbetween the frame rails and not taken up as much room. What was your reasoning?
Pavement Pounder83 12-27-2004, 09:44 PM prolly the 4mpg he gets and the tanks were inboarded before it was a so called trail truck. he used to DD this thing so sometimes we would have to drive a few miles to get to teh trail and sometimes there was no gas stations along the way.
DRew
looks like a McCulloch supercharger
Pavement Pounder83 12-28-2004, 07:48 PM yeah i think thats the brand sounds familiar.
Drew
The urban wheeler 12-28-2004, 08:34 PM mj is right, it is a McCulloch of a Studebaker Goldenhawk, was on a boat and i got it cheap from a buddy might as well use it.
Hicktruck- the upper links are only angles in about 38* the suspension doesnt bind at all i have fully cycled it with no tires, axle on the ground and other side on the frame, it will never see that much movement.
Super Jeff- I did the tanks that way so i could put the rock sliders on, i like the idea of having two tanks so i always have an aux supply of fuel. a blazer tank is actually bigger or atleast my buddys was, at 40 gallons while both of mine hold 32 combined and they are alot thinner than a blazer tank so they dont come up into the bed and they dont hang down to the axle.
American i am dropping the front down about 3" maybe more depending on oil pan clearance.

roundeye 12-28-2004, 11:03 PM Sick rig and nice work!
reddman 12-29-2004, 11:27 AM with those leaves up front, keep in mind that a portal axle sprung over puts the same forces on the springs as a conventional axle would with large blocks. iow, axlewrap. just somethin i was thinkin about. :smokin:
The urban wheeler 12-29-2004, 06:29 PM thanks roundeyes...
reddman i have that in mind, i am going to get the rear suspension antisquat figured out and working good, i have all the four-link materials for the front. the front will be done shortly after it it running again
87 Ford 12-29-2004, 07:06 PM Hey How Bout It Grant,
Truck looks great ......When is it gonna roll under power?
Ya know if you're not running by this weekend I know someone who could test out those tires for ya :smokin:
The urban wheeler 12-31-2004, 06:33 PM not sure when it'll be a runner, i will have all parts pretty soon, i have been going over some top secret plans on building a 600hp 575ftlb 468 bigblock with a mini blower and nitrous to throw in it but we'll see how things go with that.
4Mogger 02-04-2005, 09:52 PM so any news for us?
abrogate 03-26-2005, 08:42 AM is it just me or does it seem as if alot of pirate users start bad ass threads and then never finish them? i have followed this one from the get go and have been waiting for some sort of progression photos, it seems as if the last set of pictures you posted were at a stage where you would be excited and try to finish it quickly just so you could go wheel it. so whats up with that beast?
