I have a waggy D44 front axle lined up to swap out the D30 under my TJ. I'm looking at rebuilding this axle with the following bells and whistles.

Hi-steer
WARN shafts
CTM U-joints
4.88 R&P to match the rear D44
Detroit Soft locker to match the rear also

Is there a way to convert the 6.5" x 5" to stock? I already have TR beadlocks and really don't want to hassle with selling them.

Also, would this be a good time to build custom CA for the front and also go to coilovers?

What would the weak points be in the axle?

Yes you can, but you will loose the locking hubs doing this.

R&P

Edit: How about buying a rubicon housing and putting a small warn hub conversion on it?

How about sacking up and just getting new wheels or keep the D30 and wheel it until you can put together two axles with a different bolt pattern.

I've already toasted two sets of axles and u-joints so I kow it's time to get something beefier.

I don't want to drop $600 on a Rubicon D44 front if I'm still stuck using D30 shafts/knuckles. I'd rather try to build the $40 waggy D44 that I have into something usable and learn a few things in the process.

if you're blowing the u-joints and taking the shafts with them then moving to a D44 probably won't help since they run the same joint.

If you think the problem is from the clips failing and the cap walking out and destroying everything then you could tack the caps on, there's a few threads in Gen4x4 talking about this.

If you're breaking in a different way (twisted shaft, blown r&p, broken cross with clips in tact, etc.) or simply want the upgrade then moving up is worth it.

I was wondering the same thing. The 44 front switch is usually only beneficial if your going deeper in the R&P, Hysteer cheaper, or hubs cheaper.
