View Full Version : Convert 32spline CV disco axles to earlier cvs

I wish to standardize my spares.

96 disco axles and I want to convert them to early cvs (87-89 non ABS RR) nothing else.

do I lose abs or is there a way around that?

How much of a PITA? Cost (other than CVs which I hoard when I find them cheap)?

Anyone got a parts list (with numbers preferably :p )

Thanks
Ron

not sure exactly what you are trying to do.

If your rangie has 32 spline CV's then the ABS style CV's will still work fine. The non ABS will not work in the disco(they will fit but the ABS will not function)

If your rangie has 23 spline CV's then I've *heard* that you will have to do some minor clearancing(die grinder) inside the swivel ball to fit them in newer swivels. This is for the larger style CV's that are sometimes refered too as 1 ton CV's. but actually came in early rangies and 110s. In stock applications the 23 spline CV was mated with a 10 spline axle. After market axles are required to use the larger(23 spline) CV's with a 24 slpine diff.

I want to put 87-89 RR cvs into a 1996 disco, preferablly with the stock disco inner axles, but I could get ashcroft ones if necessary. That way all my trucks will be the same and I can keep one set of spares.

So are you still running the 10 spline axles on the rangie?
Does it have the 23 spline CV's(I'm not sure of the years with the 23 spline)

Your disco has the 24 spline diff end and 32 spline CV end inner shafts.

you know of the Ashcroft inner axles so the question that i can't answer is weather or not the disco will function without the ABS ring'd CV's. You could disconnect the sensor and drive it around.

The RR and the 110 (with the 87 RR front) are easy, I am going with ashcroft 24 spline inners
The disco is the issue.

I am going to the UK and stopping by ashcroft to buy some things so I want to know how easy it is to swap in 23 spline cvs out of a 87-89 RR and also will the inners be the same as on an 87-89 RR or will they be the same as a 96 disco (ie can I keep the inners stock or do I need uprated 87-89 style 24 splines)

You follow? I want the RR, 110 and disco the same so I only need one set of spares for the front.

So for the final answer could you tear your rangie and disco apart and try to swap the axles.
Then let me know:D

LOL

I don't like taking things apart if I don't have to.

I think I will just look for another early RR axle and put it under the disco :)
