It was a long weekend. Friday after work, Cheapzuk drove over his stocker and pulled it into the shop. It went from stocker to wheeler in three days. We put in Toyota axles, a lockright in the rear, CV shaft, frame extension with S/R, home made cross-over steering, Ford towers, and slapped on some 35's. We still have the 6.5:1 gears to go, but we will save that for next weekend. At least for know he can cruise the mall :D Welcome the world of Zuk's Cheapzuk. Now that I have taken the sawzall to your sheetmetal, there is no turning back :vader:

Here is a before picture:

There were a lot of sparks flying that's for sure. I was whining about the rain, but I guess you a lot of you guys have it a LOT worse.

Damn you are lazy. Seriously that looks great. Instant wheeler!

I spent the whole weekend bending tube...for a huh hummm an ancient go kart some joker gave me. We ended up bending a new bottom member and front axle up for the cart since they were beyond hope and then grafted the rest of the cart onto the new platform. Chris is loving it BTW. Thanks for the kiddie project.

Thats nice looking fab work Tusker. What's the total extension on

What's Scwafish doing, building the ultimate light weight rock
buggy? :D

What's Scwafish doing, building the ultimate light weight rock

scwafish is taking my wife's old turd of a cart and working with his son on a mini buildup. Scwafish wanted to teach him the value of the prize by having him help make it. Problem is, the "value" of that cart will be registered in the millions $ when he gets done with it :D

Hey tusker, details on how you set up the steering? power steering? what links? were from? I like how you fabbed everything up, looks killer. When I finally make the journey home I may need to 'borrow' some of that space of yours to get my steering dialed in  :D

Tusker
02-17-2004, 10:42 AM
Tyler: I owe you anyway, so no problemo. I don't know what you are doing for steering right now, but on Cheapzuk's rig I just went from Zuk box to the cross-over for now. When he gets power steering, we will go right to high steer.

I just made him a drag link out of a combination of rod and pipe. I beveled and butt-welded pieces together and then slipped pipe over each joint and lap welded those on each side of the butt welds. The end product is a solid 1.25-inch thick piece of metal. It is has a Yota ball joint on one end and Zuk on the other. If that is what you want, I can pick up ther pieces for you and have them ready when you show up. You will just need a cross-over arm (or we can make one of those if you get the spare Toyota arm). Just let me know what you want and I'll make it up for you.

Tintop
02-17-2004, 10:48 AM
Hey thanks George! that would be awsome. I do have a spare arm so i'm definetly down to fab our own junk
;)
For powersteering I've decided on going the celica box and pump route. I'm running that with RRO's kit on my dad's zuk. That way parts are interchangable between the two.
gonna go cut up some zuk housings, i'll get some pics of my progress soon :D

Well while your both here, Tintop...I still have some calipers for you and some other stock zuk stuff if you want it for your Dads ride.
Tusker: If I get another toy arm could you weld me up one of those crossover arms??? I got to install the 'Kick power steering first, but that will get me on the road a little faster. $$ or trade for labor?? :D

It is just a stock arm. Nothing more. You would need to find another arm, and do some welding still.

Hey Tusker, just to let you know, it drove like a dream today, (for a zuk on 35's anyway). I had a big grin on my face all day long. Thanks again. It was like the make a wish foundation but I'm not even deathly ill! You rule! Talk to you soon!

So nothing fell off  I just remembered that I forgot to put that castle-nut on your pitman arm, and the lug nuts were only hand tight! :D :D :D

Seriously, we can do the t-case gears and the rest of the little stuff as soon as the wives are smiling again :D

BTW, did the engine run any different/better?

cheapzuk
02-17-2004, 06:42 PM
It seemed to idle better, that's for sure. I even tried to take it on the freeway once. Not exactly zippy without those tcase gears:D . Maybe it needs a few more stickers to get some extra horsepower!!!

did you keep the frame extention at the same plane as the end of the frame or did you level it out? I will be starting mine shortly and am trying to deside which way to go.

Tusker
02-19-2004, 09:44 PM
I just extend it and keep it in the same plane as the original frame piece. With 6* castor shims, it comes out perfect.

Ok. We should have the chassis finished next weekend but getting the the rest together will take a while, we will be going to the vintage kart reunion in a few weeks to pick up the official old skool power plant. This go kart is a 1960 k&P bug. We want to do the whole thing resto style. My kid is LOVING this project.
