What is the deal with beadlocks not being street legal? I have a 70FJ40 and will have enough lift to run 37's, this is a daily driver and trail rig. I will be purchasing rims and tires so beadlocks or no beadlocks? This rig will be running the Rubicon when finished, on the weekends. Also, anyone have some rims for a FJ40? There are about 8 gajillion (scientific word <IMG SRC="smilies/wink.gif" border="0"> ) threads on the legality of beadlocks. Do a search.
As for yes or no? Hell yes!!! Why not? Run them untill you get in trouble. Then tell the cop they are the cheesy streetlocks that 4WPH sells. As for tires. it is completly up to you. Swampers are always a good choice although I have heard that there are issues with the sidewall strength of the SSR's (radials)
It all depends on how much you actually depend on it for a daily driver. The less you drive it on the road the more extreme your tires become.

For a 37x12.50 run a 15x8" rim. And beadlock the damn thing!!!!!!

Well in WA you not only get pulled over for bead locks, the Forestry service will ticket you for running beadlocks on their trails!! unless you are climbing up huge rocks every time you go wheelin I would run bottom of the line American Racing 15 x 10 steel, white I'd paint them black, and TSL Super Swamper Radials. Keep the rims cheap and stay away from chrome (for some reason the chrome rims don't hold a bead as well as steel) keep em cheap so if you bash one it'll only cost you 30 bucks to replace (and you won't feel bad takin a hammer to them on the trail to fix a slow leak) 15 x 8 on 37" tires will wear the center out before the outside, if driven on the street too much.....quick way to get a fix it ticket for your "new" tires. Bottom line is, spend your money on the rubber, not the rim bro........Good luck!!

i have bead locks onmy rig i drive to the trails. its not a daily driver but i saw no problems with them on the street. they now have 38's on them too! jiMMy FJNOTCJ

DEFINITELY beadlocks!!!! And as for wheel width, I would say stay at 4 inches narrower than the tire width. A 12.50 tire goes on an 8" wheel, a 14.50 on a 10 inch wheel, etc.
The reason for this, is because you can air down lower without getting real bad sidewall wrap. When sidehilling, the wall of the tire can fold under the wheel, making you very unstable, a narrower wheel prevents this, while still allowing you to run 5psi in your tires. If you put 12.50's on a ten inch wheel, they will wrap under unless you air up to about 10psi, and at that high pressure, you don't really need beadlocks at all, get it....

If you don't have the cash right now, i would suggest buying a common wheel that can be beadlocked later...
