: Sidekick/Tracker Xfer Case Gears!!!
ZookiBob 02-18-2004, 10:46 AM Well, Calmini just lowered the price of their Transfer Case Gears to $875!
Moab Special on Calmini Rockcrawler Gear Set (http://www.puresuzuki.com/rockcrawler1.htm)
Here's the breakdown:
Rocky Road Gear Set: $850 Plus a $200 core charge
Calmini Gear Set: $875, no core charge.
Rocky Road - Just the gears and part of the Xfer case shell.
Calmini - Gears, bearings, and new fluid!
Rocky Road - you have to return part of your xfer case shell, AND all the original gears (what the heck do they want these for???)
Calmini - nothing to return. You DO have to remove a little stock (0.080 inches) to clearance one of the gears.
Rocky Road - poor communication, no response to e-mail, pain in the ass to send them all the crap to avoid the core charge (and extra shipping).
Calmini - great communication (hell, they called me at home to let me know they had lowered the price), no hassle, and I should have my gears in 3 to 4 business days!
Guess who wins?
Calmini
Oh, and forgive me using Zookibob, instead of Bobzooki - I lost a password. :shaking:
DemoMike 02-18-2004, 10:52 AM Wow, so all that bitching and moaning did pay off!:flipoff2:

grimbo 02-18-2004, 05:59 PM why bitch about rocky road, no real point to the bitching just say Calmini were good and you got a good deal.
vendor bashing does no one any favours. Better to talk the good ones up, give praise where it is deserved. People will get the idea soon enough.

Uh, dude, the point was for comparison. Customer service makes the deal, just as much as product and price. It was PAINFUL to deal with Rocky Road, even waving a wad of cash in the air. That was just barely enough info to show the full picture of my purchasing decision. The vendor who isn't interested in me, when I'm waving the cash around doesn't lose just one sale, but many, many sales, over the years. Steve Kramer (at Calmini) gets it. Glenn Wakefield (at Rocky Road) MAY get it, but he's not putting his knowledge into action with his employees.
I STILL haven't gotten a response to my first e-mail I sent to RRO weeks ago, saying "I finally have the money".
And hell, you wanna see vendor bashing? This ain't SHIT. Do a search, and you'll find some real vendor bashing.
mypayperview 02-19-2004, 08:06 AM This might sound stupid but why spend all that money when you cant never gear down the high side. This is what im doing. Taking a 2wd tracker tranny hooking it to the 1.6ltr, taking samurai tcase installing it using the samurai centerdriveline with 2wd tracker slipyolk installed, then i took the tracker tranny and tcase and traded it to wrecking yard for the parts to do this. Now i can get lower gears for half the $ for the tcase and the samuria tcase is gear reducted on the high side. So running the 33" tires down the highway is no problem, with my current axle ratio of 5.13. Just a thought.:)

Because I now have a single mated unit, which is designed to fit in my machine. My 5.83 R&P's compensate just fine for the bigger tires. And I'm not sure that the Sami Xfer case is stronger than a Kick xfer case. They use the same xfer case on the much heavier Grand Vitara, and XL-7, driven by a V6.

it says newb under your name.:flipoff2:
mypayperview 02-19-2004, 08:25 AM Sounds cool i was under the impression that the 5.83 were a bad thing and was told to stay away, that is how i ended up with this combo, I have built the crap outa my samurai and now starting on the old ladys rig it is a 99 tracker, and she wanted 33" tires on it, so i did this instead of the 5.83. and t case for me this was cheaper.

Very interesting. I put the 5.83's on at the same time as the ARB's. They've worked great.
mypayperview 02-19-2004, 09:36 AM It kinda looks like i might have gone the wrong direction with this thing, I was told and not tryed, that the 5.83 run real hot down the highway, My girl friend has to drive 40 miles round trip so i didnt even think that the 5.83 were an option, for the tracker. Is the 5.83 actully low enought to run down the highway with 33" rubber. I am running the 1.6lt and i might have figured this all wrong. I know from dealing with the samurai that to get the gearing right for the 33" tires that you need to drop from 3.73 to 4.56. that is a big drop in ratio. 5.13 to 5.83 dont seem to be enough. Just kinda wondering if i could have done the gear swap and been happy.:)

OK, first, no, they don't seem to run hot at all. It helps to make sure they're properly set up. I had Spidertrax do the final setup on mine.
I'm running Goodyear MT/R's in 31X10.50. The Gnewt does pretty good with this setup. Understand that "normal daily driving" for me, is a 4,000 foot elevation change, over about 20 miles. The Gnewt DOES NOT have the acceleration of my 4-door Sidekick with stock drivetrain. It still does fine, though, and on FLAT ground, it'll run 75 mph all day.

I agree that vendor bashing does no one any favors. The problem with your post is that you don't seem to understand what vendor bashing is. Bobzooki took two companies and stated the experience he had with each and had some factual data for good measure......... that's called comparing:idea: Now if his post was just "Buy from Calmini because RRO fawking sucks"...... with nothing legitimate to back those statements, that would be vendor bashing.
1st hand experience comparisons do help other people because reliable customer service is just as important to many people as the product they are buying. Anyone can go look at prices from each company, but that only gives you insight into 1/2 of the equation. Posts such as this one by Bobzooki help fill in the gaps for the other 1/2...... reading them in such a way that you take in consideration that this is a single experience by a single person and may or may not be representative of how things usually are for that company.
So in closing, STFU :flipoff2:

DEPAKOTE LAWSUIT INFORMATION (http://www.classactionsettlements.org/lawsuit/depakote/)
Bobzooki 02-19-2004, 01:09 PM ...and, in defense of Rocky Road, they DO have the lowest price on the planet for ARB's - that's where I got mine. And my Safari Snorkel. So, here's where the level of service comes into play. If my ARB's crater, I can get spare parts in a million places - I bought 'em from RRO, but wouldn't even bother with contacting RRO if I have a problem. And the snorkel? What the fawk could go wrong with a snorkel?
But most everything else, including the 5.83 R&P's came from Calmini.
mypayperview 02-20-2004, 08:00 AM Hey thank you Bob I now know that i did the right thing for my rig by going with the 2wd tranny and sammi tcase. I think the sammi tcase will hold up just fine, I have seen v6 power put to them and never break. And i have put Toyota 22r in front of the sammi tcase and never had problem. The sucky part with my setup is the driveline. I now also know if i want to go with the 5.83 they are fine. Thanks again and enjoy your new gearset. And maybe let us know how the kit install goes. :)
