: Another BTG buggy in the works...
BadAZYj 02-18-2004, 05:13 PM Specs. Started as a 93 YJ... stock 4.0 and AX-15, flipped 300 with 4:1 and HD output shaft, Front and rear 60s all 35 spline, 37" Krawlers on 17" TR beadlocks, Stretched to 107"WB, Fox Airshocks in the back Here it is at it sits... still alot left:eek:
BadAZYj 02-18-2004, 05:17 PM 34.5" at the rocker;)
BadAZYj 02-18-2004, 05:18 PM :p
desertCJ 02-18-2004, 05:26 PM Cool...How much clearence under the skid plate and what is the over all height going to be? The buggy I'm building will be 31" at the rockers,24" under the skid and an overall height of 76".
BadAZYj 02-18-2004, 05:33 PM Ive got about 25" at the skid, and top of the cage will be 75-76" depending on where my seats end up... sometimes its good to be short:p
elf_cruiser 02-18-2004, 05:54 PM Damn - I'm good, those rockers turned out Niiiiice...
Git eR DuN!!!:flipoff2:
desertCJ 02-18-2004, 06:01 PM I see cut and welded tube....must not be that good:flipoff2:
BadAZYj 02-18-2004, 06:08 PM actually, it was that good:flipoff2: I just sleeved the inside of that tube cuz my last .120 wall rockers didnt like the rocks much... hopefully the being sleeved and 34.5" high these will fend a little better;)
desertCJ 02-18-2004, 06:13 PM AH I see said the blind man as he pissed into the wind:D My rockers are getting skinned with 3/16" steel so No worries there.
pmurf1 02-18-2004, 07:32 PM Do you even have a plan (or a clue for that matter)?
Good call on leaving the firewall. That saves you so much time it's not funny. Until you make the leap to full on comp buggy, it's so much faster to fab up something to hold the pedals/master, etc. where they once were, even if it's bootyfab.
Just don't let elf dick help you build your cage and you'll be OK.:flipoff2:

I just need to get out to AZ and wheel with you guys.
The Orange tube looks much more lovely in person when your looking up at it, sitting atop a waterfall.:flipoff2:
You guys have some awsome trails out there, and the AZ heat doesnt bother me, I grew up in Tucson.

We have no vehicle brand requirements. Actually, the drivers attitude is looked at closer than the rig.
Jeepmangled87 02-22-2004, 08:38 PM coming along nicely, where did you get those wheels and tires they look like my buddy off his old buggy from AZ
desertCJ 02-22-2004, 09:27 PM Lookin good:D What wheelbase is it gonna be?

Just giving you guys shit;) Our club is based on similar criteria, and BTG guys build some what similar rigs to Rock Heads rigs:D Low and narrow is where it always has been :D
desertCJ 02-22-2004, 11:23 PM Ummm...he's got fullwidth axles:flipoff2:
BadAZYj 02-23-2004, 02:39 AM Thanks Chris. Huge thanks to you and Roktoy, and huge thanks to everyone whos lent a hand in building so far(namely Elf Cruiser and JackA):beer: to ya!
Wheelbase is gonna be 107-108" as far as the wheels and tires, I could tell you but then Id have to kill you :p J/k It wasnt from your buddy I can tell you that much, the wheels were brand new when I got em. tires only had one run on em. and yes the axles are fullwidth, and I like em that way. It would suck for dodging cones, but I dont compete so I dont care about that:flipoff2:
nice tube work! that thing needs some 40's!

JackA 02-23-2004, 03:56 PM Coming along nicely Scott. I should be able to help again this weekend. That is if I am not out wheeling.:flipoff2:
BadAZYj 02-23-2004, 05:01 PM Gee thanks Jack:flipoff2: Actually, I was going to try and get the 4 link done saturday and then go throw Wes's junk on my trailer and go wheelin sunday... I need to get out:jeep3: That sound like a plan to you?

Looking Good!
BadAZYj 03-01-2004, 11:53 AM Bahh, It was just going to get dirty sitting in the garage anyway. Ill clean it when Im done and even give it a nice new paint scheme:p And Dion, your more than welcome to help, the more the merrier... Ill probably be working on it all this weekend(maybe even get it rolling:eek: :flipoff2:
Po' riggity 03-01-2004, 12:25 PM Looks way Sweet Scott! Gonna be sick when its all finished up!

 :flipoff2:
Edit: oh yeah as for pic updates, I should have some tomorrow, the 4 link is nearly complete, just waiting to get my air shocks back. Hoping to get the fuel cell, seats cooler and tool box mounted this weekend, an basically thats it;)
rockr 03-03-2004, 04:50 PM [i]seats cooler and tool box mounted this weekend, [/B]

Shaddup you:p
Heres some pics of the 4 link...(its not done, the bridge is going to be heavily braced, the brackets are going to be gusseted and the links are sleeved now, but this gives you a general idea) the lowers are 1.25" .120 sleeved with 1.5" .120 sleeved with 1.75".120, and the uppers are the same minus the 1.75". Heims are 3/4shankX 5/8ball Chromoly auroras, and the 16" airshocks will be mounted this weekend...
BadAZYj 03-04-2004, 06:18 PM
BadAZYj 03-04-2004, 06:18 PM
I'm curious about the height of your mounts to the axle. I'm personally not ejumacated in 4-link design but seeing yours makes me wonder if that top bar will hang on during a good hammer down session of hill climbs. Did you take a mathematic approach to designing it ????
Sorry for being the curious rookie, but what are your anti-squat #s gonna look like.
BadAZYj 03-05-2004, 11:58 AM Well, the top bar(bridge) is 1.75" 3/8" wall tube, and I am going to brace it by welding some tubes to the pumpkin and welding some plates to the axle tubes to gusset it. The reason its so high is to get a decent roll axis and minimize anti-squat, I havent run any numbers on it so Im not sure what it is though...
Ill let you know how it holds up in a few weeks:D
CA_YJ 03-06-2004, 04:53 PM WOW...No matter how thick those lowers are they will fail. Placing your lowers on top of the axle is just a recipe for disaster. Pick up a physics book and read about rotational torque forces, you'll see what I mean.
Tuffjarhed 03-06-2004, 06:46 PM I was thinkin about building a tube bridge like that, as well, but I was at a buddies shop last night and saw how he did his-1/4" plate on font and rear, 2 1/2" apart or so with 1/4" boxing it together. Bridge runs end-to-end on the tube, formed to the housing and welded all the way. STRONG LIKE BULL!!! That's how I'll go. ;)
H8monday 03-06-2004, 08:58 PM This set up has held up very well.

BadAZYj 03-14-2004, 06:35 PM Actually got it out of the garage under its own power today:D Got a few more things to do but I should be testing it out next weekend...
BadAZYj 03-14-2004, 06:37 PM :p
BadAZYj 03-14-2004, 06:38 PM :)
elf_cruiser 03-15-2004, 08:32 AM what a shitbox:rolleyes:
BadAZYj 03-15-2004, 11:48 AM Yeah, well... the guy who helped me build it is :rainbow: so :flipoff2:
Road Head 03-15-2004, 11:56 AM Is there any particular reason to link the rear, and keep leaves up front? I, too, am not that educated on suspensions. Thanks
74_Chevota 03-15-2004, 05:27 PM Well if your front can make it through then you know that the rear will flex through. :D BTW that is a nice buggy. Get some trail pics next weekend.
AZToy 03-15-2004, 07:40 PM looking good:)

1. I needed to tube at the back as my tub was fubarred.
2. Tubing out the back involved getting rid of my rear shackle hangers.
3.I hated getting hung up on my damn spring hangers all the time
4. I wanted to stretch the wheelbase
5. leaf springs in the back suck for climbing(imho)
6. If I could afford it right now I would go links in the front too, but the front isnt as important(to me) at this time, plus having leaves at one end will help stabilize the rig (a swaybar would do the same but again $$$$)
Need any other reasons?
and thanks for the compliments guys, next pics will definitely be in the rocks ;)
Azrckcrawler 03-22-2004, 09:00 AM Flex is overated  Here's a before shot.
Azrckcrawler 03-22-2004, 09:01 AM Here's the same line with Scott's new 4-link in back. Very good job Scott.
Azrckcrawler 03-22-2004, 09:02 AM Climbs way better now as well. This climb nearly landed him on his lid last time (you gotta bump it pretty good).
Azrckcrawler 03-22-2004, 09:03 AM Picture doesn't look that impressive but I am amazed how level the cab is with that drivers side air shock fully extended. That would be a good wheels up picture on a leaf sprung rig.
BadAZYj 03-22-2004, 12:11 PM Thanks for posting the pics Chris;) You gonna post the rest in a different thread or just put em on your site?
Needless to say I am very happy with the end result. Now I just gotta get my tool rack done and get it painted and Ill be ready for moab :)
And believe it or not CA_YJ my lowers did not fail... but if they do youll be the first to know. :flipoff2:
BadAZYj 07-24-2008, 04:21 PM Hey CA YJ, My lowers are still holding up... 4+ years later...:flipoff2:
Ill be updating this thread soon as I am going to be putting a V8 in it and re-doing the front of the rig, we'll see how they hold up then I guess:shaking:
SPOA87YJ 07-25-2008, 11:58 PM Somehow just now saw this thread....so I'm late as hell but sick rig dude.
