...I have a '83 with 29" AT's. Rancho 5012's in the back. Oh, and the 63" Chev spring swap too. :D
...Any lift, or stock height, or what?

I have no lift right now, but in the future I will be getting a 3 or 4" lift kit possibly.

...Realistically, your best bet is to just go buy some shit shocks that fit the application (stock '79 p/u). Don't waste your $$ on shox that might not fit after the lift.
Save your money and get some good shox when you lift it.

For cheap good shocks, go with Doetsch Tech DT3000's....$28 apiece delivered from Summit Racing. I run em on my pickup and my Cruiser and they are nice, expecially for the price.
However, if you are going for a lift in the next few months, then go as cheap as you can. Shocks for a stock application will not work with a 3-4" lift, and in order to get the most out of the lift, you'll want to rework your shock mounts anyways.

I have taken my '94 back to stock. So I went to AutoZone and got a set of their $20 each, lifetime warranty gas shocks. They kick ass! I can't believe how smooth they are on the road. Plus they had standard length - and a "lifted" length. Little_Joe told me about them and if you want to go cheap - they are THE WAY to go!!!
