: Marlin dual case for the LC
Jason M 01-02-2002, 03:47 PM Looks like Marlin is comming out with a Dual case kit for the LC's.
Pretty cool if they are not that expensive and are strong. I have not been able to get a hold of Marlin yet (damn phone is busy, probably some other nut who is calling him :p ) Anyone else have any info???
So for the cruisers ther is a couple of choices on gears now.
Marlin (2. something or 4.7)
Advance adapters Roc Box (3.55)
Klune (4.0)
and the NP203 doubler. (2.0)
Pretty interesting. I want Lower Gearing!!!!!!!!
:flipoff2:
RHINO 01-02-2002, 03:55 PM yup i am excited, i have tried callin him a couple times as well, just think, a second case with 4.70:1 gears on top of the stock case, thats almost 7:1 with both, yeah buddie. i cant wait i want it for my pig.
ROCK HUGGER 01-02-2002, 06:56 PM I am also looking forward to either marlin's crawler or the AA rock
box. I like the idea of the AA unit only being 5" long. Does anybody know how long marlins assembly is going to be?
coyote 01-02-2002, 07:25 PM I wouldn't hold your breath, tried that and waited for 2 years to find an older crawler box at 3.64:1....what is the AA roc box the 203 front half....I'm looking for lower gears as well but want something around 7" to replace the current adapter that I have without reworking what I have currently......klune-V is expensive as well....
Charles Aarons 01-02-2002, 07:37 PM The Marlin box looks like just the front gearing section of a mini transfer case.
I'd rank them all in strength from strong to weak as:
203 (I have one between a ZF 5spd and NP205 in my 9-11,000 lb F350 expedition truck with turbo 7.3 diesel and 325/85R16 Michelin XMLs); Rock box; Klune with 2.7 gears; Marlin box; Klune with 4.0 gears.
I can't bring myself to trust planetary gears that much in high torque applications and even Klune rates their boxes at 4000 ft-lb input in direct, 1350 ft-lb input (3500 ft-lb output) for 2.7:1 box, but only 550 ft-lb input (2200 ft-lb output) for 4:1, in their own site.
So any of these would be OK with a 2F or 3B (non turbocharged) but I think a 4.0 Klune box or maybe even a Marlin box could eat it behind a torquey V8 or a turbo 2H or 1HZ or especially a souped up 1HZ-FT(E) with 24 valves. The 4.0 planetary reducer boxes have an odd sort of double planet gears that input with one set of teeth and output with a smaller set of teeth. This is the weak point of all the 4:1 planetary gearsets.

Chatted with Marlin,
His LC adapter looks to be about 7ish inches. Initally only avilable in the 2.26 (or something range). And should cost around $1500. :(
The klune has really held up well. In fact I have not even heard of any of the new ones failing. the only one I have heard of failing was one of the first... But they are around $2500 and by the time you get done witht he adapters you are looking at around 11" of drivetrain extension
AA sells a couple of things. The Np 203 doubler and the Rocbox... The doubler is the NP 203 and some adapter plates. So it has a 2.0 gear reduction and will lengthen your drivetrain by about 12" Like the Klune, that will be kinda hard to fit on a 40.. Not impossible but hard..
The rocBox is supposed to be a 3.55:1 low range, 5.5" in total length (with adapters), will bolt directly to a SM420 or SM465 (or the TLC transmissions) and should cost around $1000.
Now when all of these low range boxes are available I will jump with joy. Untill then I will just drool over the possibilities!!!
;)
wngrog 01-03-2002, 04:01 AM The problem with all of these jason is they rely on Cheap Ass Cruiser guys to buy them to keep them in business :D
Another problem you will have is that you still have the LONG 2F.
I had a hard time fitting the Atlas with the 2F, all of these other options are going to be tight in a '40 with a 2F and stock Low Pinion axles.
I am looking forward to seeing these products.

I resemble that remark!!!!!:D
Even with the 2F I have a 27" Flange to flange distance for my rear driveshaft. Having an additional 5" of drivetrain is not going to hurt me all that much. Besides, I can always move the axle back a bit farther.
I keep thinking coilovers for some reason.. one of these days I will have to talk to Lance about how he liked his rear 4 link...
But the LT1 motor might be calling my name.... and 42's..
Oh boy....

I am feeling the same pull......
RHINO 01-03-2002, 03:50 PM for me the added 11" of length will be awsome in my piggy. its just what i want to make the front shaft longer and the rear shaft shorter. actually i would love to be able to make both shafts the same length and carry only one spare for both.
so the first from marlin will be the stock gears, 2.28:1 or whatever, fine by me. both lows would net around 4.5:1 which seems adequate for the 36 sx's i'm putting on it. after the SOA in progress of course.
price is more than the mini but what on a cruiser isnt
well went and looked at the AA site, the 203 doubler they make does not fit on the four speed yota tranny, only g.m. at least thats what i saw. so i guess i wont be doing that (i like the yota tranny)
