: Early 50s pickup identification?
2Dogs 01-02-2002, 08:19 PM Hey All,
My family has passed on a restoration project. It is an early 50s pickup (110 model????)
It is 2 wheel drive, has the high wooden side boards, external spare on the stepside bed, and stock drivetrain.
My late Grandpa bought it brand new. Cool.
So - is it worth it doing a stock resto? Will a SB Chevy fit between the frame rails?
Any other suggestions?
Thanks,
Dave

Trucks on TNN has had an old IH project going on for a while, you might want to check it out. I would avoid the seats they used, they were in a word FUGLY.
2Dogs 01-03-2002, 08:27 AM Thanks All.
I will make a call to my Uncle on the ranch to see if I can get the pics started.
2Dogs 01-03-2002, 06:21 PM Hi All,
It is a 1952.
Just got off the phone with my Mom - she has all the original documents pulled from the truck - shweet!! I guess they were put under the dash at the factory.....
She also reminded me that she learned to drive in the rig and that it is so low geared that it prolly wont do 60 MPH!
This is going to be fun.

2Dogs 01-03-2002, 10:42 PM Those are real cool!
Ours is the same color as the one overgrown with weeds. They called it 'The Grey Ghost.' Is that really a color? Looks like primer.
How do you qualify to post attachments like that?

Hey Chief,
You have an endless supply of IH material? Nice!
Do you have fullsize copies of that ad?
Thanks!

no but I'll keep my eyes open for ya
2Dogs 01-07-2002, 08:51 PM I retrieved the build sheet and some pics from Mom's this weekend. I'll post text of the specs until I can get everything scanned and posted. Here goes:
Chassis Model R 112 (??)
SD 240 Engine
Deluxe Oil Filter (?? sounds cool tho)
WT 98 4 Spd tranny
SGL Red Rear Axle 4/1 (short tires and that ratio, no wonder)
15 Gal underskirt tank (is that the primary tank, or the second in a dual setup?)
Chesapeake Grey No. 112
Regular Cab
8 Ft pickup body
Inc Cap Heater/Defroster
Extra Sun Visor
500k Front Wheels
650x16 6p TT Front Tires
500k SGLE RR Wheels
650x16 6p TT SGL RR Tires
650x16 6p TT Spare Tire
Auxilliary Springs
Dome Light
Dual Electric Wipers
Is the number in the far right (2772) the price?
Also it was shipped via rail to(or from) Oakland Ca. Not quite clear.
The hood and grill are different from other trucks that I have seen The grill is a simple cross with iH (?) in the center.
The hood has a large scoop in it also.
I will post this stuff ASAP.

hmmm this is a 55 model
well SD stands for silver dimond and is a *DAM* good motor last forever and they got lots of tourqu. Electic wipeers I guess was an opction. BW T-98 is a strong tranny aso with a granny low of 6.398 and reverse is 7.820  Get some 3.92 RP in that rear end (if advalabul) and you can do 60 MPH no problem. A little not that is the first truck made by IH to have an 4WD option for the public maket
good luck with the beast
2Dogs 01-08-2002, 08:49 AM Yes, that is what it looks like. Mom swears that it is a 52 but I talked her into going to the Safe Deposit box today to double check.
So with this info you can say it is not a 52?
I think I found a 53 with that front end - what is the earliest year of that front end type?
I'll try to get the stuff scanned today......
