OK, my friend has a 82 Toy with manual steering. We want to swap in all the components for power steering. My question is......will the parts of a 2WD truck work, or is it different from the 4WD???

Thanks

it would work but it is not as strong as a 4wd IFS steering box. if you look at them you'll know the size difference.

Well, i know that the 4WD IFS steering boxs are better because then you can use cross-over steering....blah blah blah I have all that on my truck.

However, my friend is working on a tight buget at the moment so we are trying to keep things as cheep as possible. With all that said.......

1. 2WD Steering box is said to be weaker....that is understandable and a good point

2. But what about the resivor and pump/lines. Are all of thous the same or do they differ in 2WD vs 4WD models?

The reason i ask is because i have a friend with a 2WD parts truck, (got it for the EFI swap). And if i can get everything off his truck except the actaully steering box....then get a steering box from a boneyard....that could possible be a cheap upgrade. And everyone knows power steering is nice in the woods....or on the street.

Or i am sure that there is someone out there who has upgraded to a IFS box and wants to get rid of the old steering box... :D

Everything is basically the same except the steering box. So the answer is yes and spend the money for the 4X4 steering box.:D :usa: :D

bought my truck with the 2wd box and cross-over setup.
Don't know why anyone would invest time and money doing this but when you're on a budget, I guess whatever will do..
there are 2 bolts that mount the box to the side and one on the top of the frame. If you swap to a 4wd box later( which I am in the process of doing) you may need to redo the sleeves and bracket. Also the 2wd pitman arm will not bolt up to the 4wd box. different size splines or shaft.
However the guy I bought it from wheels quite a bit and never had any problems. I also wheeled it for a while and did not have any problems .. let me know if you want me to send you a couple pics of the setup..
