What's the best method for labeling all the hoses, wiring, connections, etc., during R&R of your engine?

I got a booklet of number and letters used for household/Industral wiring at Home Depot. Seem to be waterproof. :usa:

Do they still stick after you touch them with your greasy hands?

I use somethign similar to waht opp's mentioned. I have some 3M number roll tapes, that I use for numbering valves at work. They work fine with water, but I'm guessing that you'll want to try to keep grease off of them beforeyou stick them together, after that, no problem

I used a whole bunch of coloered zip ties and labeled the hell out of everything using differant color combinations, etc. Worked real well for me, but I think the actual labels would be a better option. I used half of a 500 pack easily! But it worked, that's all that matters....right

Oops has the best idea. They're called "wire books" by electricians. I used one when I redid my head. It's basicly a book with several sheets of self stick letters, numbers, and symbols from A-Z, 1-0, and several symbols. They'll stick to alot of stuff since you wrap them around and back to themselves, but obviously not to straight grease. Mine are still on my engine after almost a year. Makes it easy if anything ever falls off.
Some Home Depot's have them, some don't. They're in electrical if they do. If not, air conditioning and electrical wholesale houses have them.

I use the Electricians stickies, a Sharpie Permanent Marker, and labeled ziplocks for the loose parts.
