Going out to Florence Junction this Saturday. Meeting at 79 and Cottonwood Canyon at 10am? I think we are going to goof around on Martinez Canyon or whatever. Gotta break in the new motor. Who's in?

Also the 4wheel expo is this weekend, Friday thru Sunday. Go visit Mark at the Kongs4x4, OR Fab, Dick Cepek display.:usa:

If any of you guys get bored on Sunday, I am trying to round up some people for a run out to the White Tanks. Thinking about running Intimidator (http://www.azrockcrawler.com/_images/2001/6-01intimidator/6-01Intimidator.html) and Upper Firebird (http://www.azrockcrawler.com/_images/2001/3-01firebired/3-01firebird.html) .

Wheel Saturday, expo on Sunday. Although a trip to the White Tanks sounds kinda fun.

So, we will meet on Saturday at 10am then.

As far as the motors go, mine was like a text book install. No problems at all. Thanks again Larry. My Runner feels like a hotrod, well, compared to before.

Chris,
I had planned a tame run of Jawbreaker on Sunday, but the pics you posted of Intimidator and Firebird look like too much fun. What time and where are you meeting on Sunday? I'm not sure if Firebird is the same trail I ran out there recently. We ran what Tracy Jordan called "Ruler". Have you heard of it? It basically starts out in a wash that looked similar to your Upper Firebird pics, and had some sort of red vehicle just before the entrance along with two mufflers standing up marking the trail. Is this the same trail?

Also, your write ups on the two trails mentioned Dave King. See if he remembers Sean King (red Toyota) from Jamboree a few years ago. Any chance he'll be there Sunday? I haven't seen him in awhile.

I've got a few friends who might come along. They're locked f/r with pretty good flex and low gears. One guy only has 33's though. Can he make these trails or does he need bigger tires?

TIA,
Sean

Sean, go and check out Epic4x4.com. There a little writeup about some AZ wheeling. Is that the trail you told me about? The whole dangle from a winch cable ending? It kinda seems like what you described. If so, when are we going to meet up and hit the White Tanks? I don't think I can make it on Sunday. Maybe if I change some plans though.............maybe..........

That dangle by the winch cable is a different trail than Ruler. It's MUCH more difficult. We're running it in January. Tracy opened it several years ago (with birfields no less :yikes: )I'll go check out the Epic site.

I plan on meeting at Jackrabbit Rd and Mcdowell at that new gas station at 8:45am. We'll pull out at 9:10. Upper Firebird starts at the red Firebird. I heard some other guys calling it by a different name, course the AZVJC calls Firebird "Tax Collector" I go by what the locals say. 33's on a LWB will be hard. I made it thru on 32's but my Zuk only had an 80" wheelbase. I also think I hit every piece of sheet metal that day :) Dave's Zuk is down, he's trying to find some Dana 44's after breaking an R&P.

Chris,
He's actually on a stretched Jeep frame. I believe he's 96-97" with 33" MTRs, 4:1 tcase, lockers f/r, spring over, rockguards, etc. Think he'd make it?

He'll make it. I haven't run that trail since early this year. If a lot of people have been running it the trail may be beaten down a bit. The first time thru our trip leader told us were were only the 2nd or third group to even atempt it, I saw no tire marks or tracks anywhere. I am really looking forward to seeing it again. I can also show you guys the wash I think should be a trail.

Well, I'll have to blow off running trail 42 with those Jeeps, but I'll come out Sunday. C'mon Jack I know you can make it too:D
I'll be a the Expo tonight.

Can anyone give me more specific directions to where you are meeting?

When you get to the expo tonight tell Mark the site is up and ready for more pictures and info... If you go wheeling this weekend take photos for a trial report:D

Who's running 42?

The trail 42, Jeep thing is an inside joke, Looks like http://www.kongs4x4.com/f is coming along nicely. I will tell him. Hows the runner working out? I consider it some of my best work:smokin: . ( I didn't do the bump stops, sorry)

Ya, I think the site is really coming - just needs more info and pict. on it.

My truck is great in the driveway:rolleyes: I need to make a few changes to wheel it - main problem is with the shift linkage to 4low hitting when the frame flexes or motor loads. All the craftsmanship is first rate - but I figured you'd dodge the credit for the bumpstops. I think mark had a few   before doing those. Easy fix... Biggest thing I need to adjust is the V6 oil pan clearance to the draglink. I think a torch and welder will be in its' future.:D

Chris,
Jackrabbit and McDowell? That's not the gas station immediately on the northeast corner when you get off the exit ramp at Jackrabbit and I-10; is it? The dirt lot we parked our trailers at last time was only like 1/2 to 1 mile from there. Is this the gas station you're talking about?

So what's the agenda? Intimidator first and then Firebird, vice versa, or do we have enough time to do both??

Sean

Yea, that's the gas station, NE corner. for anyone new to the area, take I-10 and head towards LA, you'll see a big sign for Jackrabbit out past the 303 loop. Get off the freeway and the gas station is to your right. Where was this dirt lot? At the end of Mcdowell? I'll most likely show up early to drop the tow rig and then wait at the gas station. Was planning on doing Intimidator first since it is short and then head on over to Upper Firebird.

Also, I got a bunch of pictures from when Mark and the guys ran Lost World with me (only used about half on my page). If you want the fullsize images drop me a PM and I'll give you the info for my ftp server, you can grab all you want.

Chris,
I don't even really know what road the dirt lot was off of. We left the gas station, headed north on Jackrabbit and the next intersection turned left (west) and then went down til it deadended or made a really sharp right turn (can't remember which). We turned left instead into the dirt lot.

So how many vehicles do you have coming with you and who all from this page is going??

Never heard of Lost World. Is it out in White Tanks too??

ScottD had the same problem on his when he did it. Best thing to do is a drivetrain lift. You get clearance and the draglink problem solved. What's another month without the truck? It'll make your next trip to the Coke Ovens that much sweeter!:flipoff2: :flipoff2:

Clifton and I are heading to the show at about noonish. Got my Thorley today, so I'll probably slap it on Sunday. Good excuse to drink beer.

3 Zuks and whoever here goes. I know the dirt lot your talking about, right where Mcdowell ends. Lost World is NE of Lake Pleasant in the middle of nowhere. tried going upstream last week, didn't get far. there a trip report here. (http://www.azrockcrawler.com/_images/2001/12-01unforgiven/12-01unforgiven.html) We are going to call teh upstream portion Unforgiven, it's long and has some really cool waterfalls just beyond where we got to.
