This was in Khandahar when Tom went to visit a child that was killed by a stray 20mm mortar he found in a ditch.

Sweet! That's a *J75 troopie (most probably an HJ75 powered by a 2H diesel), 1985-1990 model, stock split rims, full-floater axle, original dealer-option aluminum roof rack, STD trim. Pretty good condition for a troop carrier of that vintage and used as an ambulance in the Third World...

Is Tom all right, Nolen?

Tom is great. He really is getting some awesome experience over there.

The story behind this one is they went and shot some caves today and when they came back the Cruiser would not start.

They enlisted some locals to help:

as ugly as the j75 troopies are, you gotta admit that one would look really sweet with 36" swampers crawling moab!

Let me help everyone out with a translation of the ARABIC script on the side of the Cruiser:

it reads: Any persons in posession of any material of, or related
to anything Jeep- will be shot dead on site and family
members will be hung in a public forum.

I reckon that is a petrol (gas) model troopie.... no diesel stain under the filler cap, dirt roads+deisel=a stain sooo hard to wash off.

It could be, but Afghanistan is not an oil-producing country, and in such cases diesel is almost always cheaper than petrol...that said, I think the missing stain, especially on a 10+ year-old white truck, means you're probably right. That would make it an FJ75, powered by a carbed, low-compression 3F engine.

Maybe it was recently painted or recently received a 1HDT & H55!! It could happen.

Sundance, its just not right for you to shatter our visions of foreign diesel cruisers. You Aussie cruiserheads are always there to smack us less fortunate in the face w/ reality. :flipoff2: :flipoff2: :p
