: Worth it going to 35 spline outers on a D60 Chevy if still running hubs?

I have Warn Premium hubs, and they seem to be the weak point in my D60. Is there much advantage in going to 35 spline outers with hubs? Seems a 35spline hub would be weaker (thinner metal) due to the bigger outer shaft diameter?
Is the 35 spline upgrade only recommended for guys running drive flanges?

Thanks,
Phil

It's a big hassle. Here's what you should do: I'll do a straight
swap with you for all 30 spline outers and hubs/spindles. It'll be a
direct bolt-on for you. I'll included a "C" note for your trouble.
just send me an email when you want me to help you.

No, I HAVE 30 spline stuff now, but was thinking of upgrading to 35 spline stuff later. Was wondering if it was a good idea. Are the 35 spline hubs weaker than 30 spline? The 35 spline upgrade only a good ideas if you run drive flanges?

Thanks,
Phil

FWIW, when I put mine in I completely went through the axle. I kept the 30 spline stubs, figuring I'd just go 35s if I broke one. Well, I did break one after 2 1/2 years. It also took out the spindle, both nuts, the lock ring, and the outer bearings (I went ahead and did the inners too, just in case). Not only did this add a lot to the cost, but if I'd had to drive it home from the trail, I'd have been screwed. Just something to think about. Oh yeah, I was running the OE Spicer hubs at the time.

if you go to the 35 spl. outer stubs they are over .250 larger than the 30 spl. and I would recomend running spicer hubs toooooo!

and yes its worth it it will cost you around 400.00 with stubs and new hubs:D :smokin: :smokin:

$400??? you are paying too much ;-)

BUT - if the stub is bigger, then the hub must be thinner, since the OD of the hub remains the same? So is the 35 spline hub weaker?

Stubs, 2x73 + shipping/tax
Warn hubs, ~185
Hub seal kit 2x8
New style joints, 2x38 + tax
Spindle, 105 + 15 shipping
Inner/Outer bearings (1 side) ~45? (forget)
Spindle Nuts (1 side, don't have yet)
Synthetic grease, 1 tube, 5
Full snap rings (haven't bought them yet this time)

Damn, I wish mine only cost $400.

I run them and have not broke them yet ! And I have Spares! so i can take some internal pics if you want !! compared to 30 spline stuff

189 hubs + tax
160 stubs+ tax

about 350 to 360 depending on where you get them!

most people break the Stub! seen alot of that! or the u- joint! have not seen a Hub go yet ?
I say run the 30 spline then blow it up

the reason i went with 35 is I did not have hubs so I bought new ones they are same in price for the Preimuim hubs!

I can get the 35 spline stubs for $58 each, and the hubs cheaper than that (have to check). PM me if you want me to set you up.

OK, the hubs cost more than I thought they would. I can get you 35 spline hubs and stubs for $300.
