Just How Crazy Are They?
By Alan Caruba

In an "open letter" to Vegan Voice, a publication for vegetarians, Karen
Davis of United Poultry Concerns, wrote "In conclusion, I think it is
speciesist to think that the September 11 attack on the World Trade Center
was a greater tragedy than what millions of chickens endured that day and
what they endure every day because they cannot defend themselves against the
concerted human appetites arrayed against them."

Yes, you read it correctly. Ms. Davis is comparing the lives of more than
3,000 men and women who died in that attack to the lives of CHICKENS.

She goes on. "Perhaps the word 'tragedy' should not be used anyway in this
context unless in the more precise sense of a fundamentally terrible thing
happening to a human being who consciously or subconsciously brought the
terrible thing upon him or herself, lived through it, and gained insight and
wisdom as a result. In a classic sense of tragic drama, it remains to be seen
whether America is a 'tragic hero' or even a 'tragic' victim."

This soulless protector of chickens is asserting that the most important
thing about the September 11th attack is not a tragedy for those who died,
those family and friends who survived them, and the nation as a whole. She
even suggests that they may have brought the attack upon themselves because
they showed up for work that day. Or they responded to the scene and gave
their lives trying to save others. Then she questions whether America is a
victim of the worst act of terrorism ever perpetrated against this nation.

"If though, the question is whether the World Trade Center attack was worse
for its thousands of human victims than the sum total of misery and terror it
was for millions of chicken victims that day, I see only one nonspeciesist
answer to the question."

If you'd like to tell Ms. Davis the difference between killing humans and
killing chickens, you can write her at United Poultry Concerns, PO Box 150,
Machipongo, VA 23405 or email her at Karen@UPC-online.org. For more
information about this organization that cares more for chickens than humans,
you can check it out at www.UPC-online.org.

It's worth noting that the 9.11 attack didn't deter the crazies who think
that the lives of animals are equal to the lives of humans. Three days before
the attack Animal Rights lunatics torched a McDonald's restaurant in Tucson,
Arizona. Following the attack they set fire to a maintenance building at the
primate research facility in New Mexico, released minks from an Iowa fur farm
twice within a week, and firebombed a federal corral for wild horses in
Nevada.

Federal authorities and State police are trying to determine if radical
Greens were involved in placing two bombs that were found and disarmed at two
forestry buildings on the Michigan Tech University campus in Houghton,
Michigan.

Meanwhile, two environmental groups are suing the Bush administration to
block the removal of charred trees from a forest ravaged by fires last
summer. The Wilderness Society and American Wildlands filed suit on December
18th to block the expediting of a timber-salvage program on 44,000 acres of
the Bitteroot National Forest in Montana. If this sensible forest management
effort is not undertaken, these charred trees will be nothing more than
fodder for the next fire a bolt of lightning will ignite. What these two
groups want, like all their Green brothers and sister, is to insure that our
forests burn rather than be tainted by the use of human beings.

The Animal Liberation Front claimed credit for four of the attacks and the
Earth Liberation Front took credit for attempted bombing. David Barbarash, a
spokesman for both groups said that the September 11th attacks has changed
nothing for these Green terrorists. Barbarash says that these animal rights
and environmental gangsters aren't terrorists because their aim is not to
harm people, but to protect animals and the environment. ALF and ELF are just
terribly misunderstood because they "are acting out of compassion for all
life, including human life."

Meanwhile, they go around destroying facilities that are engaged in
invaluable medical research or which pursue commercial activities that
include fur farming and private property such as the Vail Ski resort in an
October 1998 fire.

In December, it was revealed that federal and state wildlife biologists had
planted false evidence of a rare cat species in two national forests, the
Gifford Pinchot National Forest and Wenatchee National Forest in Washington
State. Had they gotten away with this despicable perversion of science, the
evidence they planted would have led to the banning of various forms of
recreation and use of these two forest areas.

As this new year begins, the law enforcement and other agencies of the
Federal government are focused on determining who among us poses a threat of
militant Islam, but for decades now, Animal Rights and Greens have been
engaged in a massive campaign of propaganda-lies-that have imposed bans,
limitations, and increased costs on every aspect of our lives. Some have
engaged in arson, break and entry, vandalism, and theft to advance their
cause. In addition to the Islamic militants among us, we have a cadre of
terrorists who need to be hunted and jailed before they become further
emboldened to harm our lives and our nation.
