I need to know if the spider gears in the front axle of a toyota and the rear are the same....
I screwed up welding mine (I let some weld jump onto the splines of the axle shaft) and it cant really be filled off with any accuracty. Sucks cause it was just one little spot and all I would have had to do to prevent it would have been to put the shaft in there.
Oh well, anyway, I need to redo it in another carrier, I have the carrier but need the spider gears. I have free access to a front axle of the same year with spider gears in it.
Will they work?

As long as they are both 4 cylinder!!!! Go get your self some anti splatter spray and spray the hell out of it when you weld the new one.
If you took your time with a 3-cornor file I bet you could clean it up. :usa:
Yeah, I was thinking about cleaning it up and all but since I have all the parts Im gonna say screw it. I got most of it cleaned up but that one spot is big as maybe half a pencil eraser and I know its never gonna be perfect. Ill always have to pound the shafts in and out and that is the kinda thing that is gona piss me off. I would much rather have them slide in and out all nice.
What is anti-splater spray and where do I get it?
Thanks!

It is stuff that you spray on the metal and it helps to stop the splatter from sticking. I get mine at the welding supply store. I think I have also seen it at Home Depot.:D :usa: :D

I have a spool in my truck and drive it every day. It does wear down tires faster than anything else will. I'm hoping to get a year, maybe more out of my 37 ssr's. As soon as the snow's gone, I'll be buying a set of 37" boggers to run this summer, which will help reduce wear on the ssr's. I don't mind having the spool in there, I think that it drives fine with it. I just keep a close eye on tire pressures to make sure that they are wearing evenly and rotate frequently and you should be ok.

SEARCH! - I've seen this come up at least six times. Search for 'welded diff', 'welded rear' and things like that.
Wilson...
The way you wrote that makes it sound like you are buying 37 inch boggers to help reduce wear on your SSRs...that dosent make sense:confused: Im sure you meant it someother way...
Anyway, everyone, I knew what anti splatter means btu seeing as how I did not know that it existed, I figured yall were taliking about something that you use for this purpose that is meant for somehting else...
Anyway, thanks for the advice...what I did though was I pounded some wood dowel in there to protect the splines... worked great other than the smoke burning my eyes:)
Anyway, thanks for the advice on the anti splatter:)
