Is $5.36 a foot a good price for DOM 1-3/4 1/8 wall tubing??

heck no! it should be between 2.25 to 2.50 ft no more for .125 / 1.750 D.O.M.:D

i paid 3 per foot for 1.75 x .250 dom and i only bought 30 feet of it.

I agree completely with techguru. I am wondering if they may be qouting for TRUE seamless & not dom? If that were the case it would be in the ball park--- make sure they know exactly what you mean by dom (an erw D.rawn O.ver M.andrel) you would be suprised by how many people in the welding & steel business who dont know the difference between seamless & DOM.

Camo, would you possibily sell me about 5 feet of that tubing you have and ship it to me, I will pay for it for sure and the shipping.

Ok I called another steel house and their price is a $1.41 a foot. They weren't sure if it was DOM they said it's what the race car drivers use for there roll bars. So what do you think? It's for a bumper and slider.

I pay 1.56 ft for 1.750 / .120 wall d.o.m. when I buy it with an order of 250 dollars or more so yea thats alright . Even if its e.r.w. its still alright esp. for what your going to use it for save the better tubing for cages ,frames ect its cheaper than brain surgury:D :D

Its probably ERW & that price would be fine. That should be very appropriate material for the projects you have described.
There are ALOT of folks on the board that use ERW tubing for cages also including me. DOM for customers who can afford the extra expense or who ask for it specifically.

What is ERW??and is the inside of the tubing have a seam??
I need to slide it into another tube.

ERW is the process in which after the tube has finished being rolled (on dies) into shape it is joined together using electric resistance welding (similar to how spot welders work), and it does leave a seam although usually small. You could use an air die grinder with stone or carbide burr to remove it atleast in a coupple of inches in.
DOM is the same as ERW initially but is drawn over a mandrel to remove seam & make the wall thickness consistant & more.

I get it for 2.45 a foot and I have heard the more you buy the cheaper but I have ordered anywhere from 40ft to 100ft and they give me the same price. They even deliver it to my house for $10 reguarless of the amount, which is cool since I only have the rig to drive.

I paid about $1.70 per foot for 1.75 x .120 DOM and I bought about 170 feet.

Anyone know the tensile strength and weight per foot of 2" DOM tubing?

2" .120" wall about 2.4 lbs. per foot

the secret is to go in with a bunch of your friends and make one large purchase for everyone . If it retails around say 3.00 ft where you live tell them if they buy it with you , that you can get it for say 2.75 which is true because you set the price and buy at 2.25 ft and get yours for free and do your buddies a favor by saving them some cash to.
