406 axles are very good. The only problems that you may have with them are that the gearing is very low(Mid 7's to 1 ratio), They are quite hard to swap into Non-Mog vehicles, they are going to require custom machined parts to use drive shafts instead of the torque tubes they use. And you are not going to be able to fit anything less than 20" wheels without custom parts.
They were not made to go any faster than 50 mph, and breaking that limit by much will most likely cause damage to bearings(Relative to tire size. Stock tire diameter was 38" so larger tires would allow you to go proportionatly faster to the difference in tire circumference, so long as you do not exceed the max RPM for the bearings)
Also you better be sure that they are in decent condition , because maintenance parts for them tend to be somewhat expensive.
The Mog axles should give you ~7.5 clearance over the rockwells, a definate plus.
There is plenty of info on Mog axles over at the Sierrarockcrawlers.com website for you to see. If you have any more question about Mog axles you can PM me either here or over at over at Sierra Rock Crawlers.
Also, if you decide not to buy the axles, I would appreciate it if you would PM me with info on them(whereabouts, price being asked) as I am looking for a pair of them myself.
