two questions.... I want to dump the chromies!! 31's are on there now.
1. will the 31x10.5 fit a stock fj40 rim?
2. I have a 2 1/2 spring lift and I don't want to cut the rear wheel wells...( the fj is pretty stock) will 33x9.50 fit without rubbing?

they wont rub when driving on the road, but will rub if you go offroad and flex it a lot..i have 33x9.5's i think (they are SKINNY) on my stock fj45..they dont rub on the road and havent noticed any rub offroad but i've only taken it "urban wheeling"

Of couse they'll "fit". A friend's 40 has a 35x14.5 Mickey Thompson on a 15x6 wheel (spare)! They will work, just won't have optimum tread contact.

1. Yes, 31x10.5 tires will fit the stock rim fine.
2. The 33x9.5 will tuck inside the fender on stock rims, so no cutting is necessary. You should be fine with 2.5" of lift. I have one Cruiser with this exact set-up, and it slightly rubs under max articulation, not enough to worry about.

(Let's try this again, I'm having picture trouble.)
I've got 33x10.50 Swampers on FJ40 wheels - 2 1/2" lift or so and uncut fenders. The only rubbing I notice is on the draglink on a hard left turn. Skinny tires rule! <IMG SRC="smilies/biggrin.gif" border="0">

Thanks for the pic.... that's exactly what I was looking for. It looks great... How much did those 33" swampers run ya?

They're about $120 each. I think they kick ass, although I need to go bigger.
They are actually pretty nice on the road (radials) and will claw their way though anything off road. They're really skinny. They look skinnier than the 33x9.50's on my friend's truck.
