78 was the first year of the hi-pinion dana 60 and dana 44. The bolt pattern is 8x6.5. Not sure about the WMS to WMS size or when they started using 35 spline shafts. I do know that the new dana 60's are 35 spline but im not sure when they started.

Im pretty sure the inner shafts were always 35, outer's are 30. WM to WM on mine from a 79 was 70".

High-pinion and 35-spline axles started at the same time - in 78. Ford low-pinion 60's have 30-spline inners.

so were the early 60s that were 35 spline the same as the early chevy 60s in that it was 35 spline, but they necked way down till 81 or so.
