I heard of people using wire to do this. What type of wire and how is it done? Any tips or tricks? I've got an SX Swamper with a nice slash in it that won't hold plugs and nobody will touch it--not even the industrial truck tire retreading outfits. :( It's got more than half tread still and I would like to be able to use it as a spare if I have to ( 2 of the tires on my rig have multiple plugs in the sidewalls also, but they hold air for now).

if you can find Spectra fiber net mending twine... ( usually found near oceans....) that stuff is stronger than wire ( Spectra fiber is what those plazma rope winch cables are made out of...) then you could stitch it together with a big ass needle and pliers........ get a big honkin tractor tire patch ..... and you're rockin'
net mending twine is also usually available in black ( for foolin the fish and all......) so after it's stitched fill in the gap with some rubber cement ......:) :)

if you plan to use it as a spare try putting a boot patch in it and then put a tube inside..The patch will just serve the purpose of keepign dirt from getting inside the tire and rubbing a hole in the tube..hope this helps.:D

Yeah I am  too. Haven't seen to many SX's tear a sidewall. I gotta go with Jesse's idea though. Patch and tube.

I can tear an SX sidewall like nobody's business. :D We've got some sharp rocks here and when they're wet it's even worse. The SX's laugh at damage that would destroy any other tire, but they are not invulnerable. I've got sidewall punctures in 3 of the 5 tires, one of which has punctures on both sidewalls! :(

We can go and trade the 1/2 bed and some springs and get you 3 decent replacements. Want to drive half way to Tucson and pick them up on Sunday? Then expo?

I would put a patch and run the tube if you must use that tire.;)
