: Beadlock "rockstomper"
kodak 01-03-2002, 08:49 PM Talk about timing. I went to pic N pull yesterday to get some wheels for the Rockstomper Beadlocks. I had some idea that they would be at my door any day. came back from PNP and there they were. So I spend this evening welding and seting up the netcerts. Fawk they rock!

Aggro 01-04-2002, 06:19 AM Is that bubble gum or bird sh!t??!!
pretty cool being able to build your own beadlocks.
get it!
don't worry about the welds. nobody will see em once you put the tires on. :D
morpheus 01-04-2002, 08:39 AM anyone see any potential problems welding to a rim that has been chromed ? i realize the weld is really on the backside where it was not chromed but i thought the chroming process did 'something' to the metal ??????????????

uh yeah, it coated it with useless shiney crap. Good thing that shiney crap burns off during the welding process. though it probably does contaminate the weld a little
xextr3m3 01-04-2002, 10:24 AM well it looks like it got penetration so your ok....and if it falls off on the trail it wont hurt much(well maybe your pride)
kodak 01-04-2002, 11:13 AM Ya they chrome doesn't weld. also the fumes from the chrome burning off is caustic<SP. That is weld splaters with the chrome. which makes it look like hamered dog sh!t
Making your own Beadlocks is too fawkin kewl!
oh and aggro :flipoff2:

EXCEPT (and i just finished my Rockstompers today) when you have just spent an hour carefully trying to torque all the bolts down, air it up and "pssssst" you have a pin hole in your weld and it leaks like crazy so you gotta tear it all down, strip the paint, grine, re-weld, and start again!
I'd check those welds VERY carefully if i were you.
RustoleumWhite 01-04-2002, 03:07 PM looks killer!! How much were they??

Thats what they make Silicon caulk for... :D
TheNerple 01-04-2002, 04:23 PM Nice locks, I think you are gunna have some psssst pssssst coming from your welds though. I hope you aren't making roll cages! Might want to go over the weld again by the looks of it. Took me a while to tork down my 20 bolts per wheel and I hate to think of the pain of 40 per wheel. Better go over them welds or you'll be pulling the tire back off, rewelding and retorking them! Glad to see people doing it themselves though.
70Cruzer 01-04-2002, 05:41 PM what did the beadlock kits run you for the full set?
Looks good btw :D
kodak 01-04-2002, 06:47 PM I bought 4 beadlock kits with button head. They are $75 each + $10 bolts. $340 + shipping. Wheels from PNP $7.99 each.
As for welding them and not leaking. one of my first welding projects was rockrails that double as airtanks. I learned fairly quickly on what is an air tight weld and what will leak :D
using a 220v mig is so much better than the little 100 buz box I use to use.
I pained the welds with hamerite. so that should seal any pin holes. glossy paint is the only way to go.

you did that with a MIG!!! I figured it had to be AC looking that bad! damn maybe there is hope for me doing my own wheels :-P
Also How long did that take you to do?
CRAWLR 01-04-2002, 09:50 PM Mine should be here next week. WOO HOO! I was a dumbass and waited for the price to go up, but it's still a great deal :bounce:
Krylon.. 01-08-2002, 09:45 AM Am I seeing things wrong? Isn't the outer wheel lip supposed ot be cut off and then the beadlock plate is supposed to be welded to the rim then the outer plate bolted on?(I understand in the pic the outer plate is not there.
Looks to me like the outer rim bead lip is still there, isn't it supposed to be cut off?

You don't have to cut the lip off with the Rockstompers. It goes right down over the top. Make's the wheel wider, but that not always a bad thing.
That's what makes these things so damn cool. Easy to put together.
