: 87 Grand Waggy axleshafts?

Ok...I've searched Warn and as much of the net as I can in the last few hours and I can't find any aftermarket companies that make a axleshaft for the front of the Grand Waggys...if I'm not mistaken the outer shaft for the early 80's Chevys should work since all the other Grand Waggy and Chevy knuckle out parts are interchangable (brake caliper, hubs, etc).

If anyone has some insight for me or some good links or phone #'s I'd much appreciate it.

Thanks,
David

Did you try calling Moser (www.moserengineering.com) they can make any shaft you want (and stronger than stock)

You mean you couldn't find them on Warn's website? They are there with all of the other axleshafts. And yes, the Jeep 44 and Chevy 44 outer axleshafts are the same. Here, I'll help you with the webpage. Look under '80-84 Wagoneer.

yeah, warn only lists 80-84.

I called them last year and spoke to some obviously clueless person and said "as far as I can tell there is no difference between the 80 -84 and 85-91 front 44 GW shafts...(except for the 83and 84 disco ones of course), so will your shafts work in the later ones", they said nope, they said "because it says so".

Well...this helped me a little bit, however the 80-84 part #'s there are for the Waggoneer not the Grand Waggy. This means that those part #'s show as being for the Pass side diff, not like the Drivers side diff that is under my 87 Grand Waggy.

Any further advice might would be appreciated.

Thanks,
David

The pre 80 grand waggys with the passenger side drop, are what you need to order. The long side will be 32.25 or something like that, and the other one is 16.??. In any case they are the same, just reversed.
I have ordered several sets for my 86 Grand Waggy front axle. No body seems to know that the 80s Grand Waggy even exists.

Just FYI, all 80 and newer Wags or GWs are driver's drop.

SJs were not called GRAND Wagoneers until the intro of the XJ.

Well whatever they are called the axles you want, will be 33.12 right side, 15.8 left side.
I just checked my notes to make sure.

No, they are the parts you want. Every Wagoneer from '80 and up is the driver side drop. The name Grand Wagoneer is just a name. They are no different than the '80-84 Wagoneers prior to them. In 1987 the little Cherokee had an upgraded trim package that they called Wagoneer. When this trim package came out the big Waggies became Grand Wagoneers. That's the only difference. Wagoneers '79 and older are the passenger side drop.

Just got my hands on an 01 Warn catalog.

Wagoneer(drivers side drop) 80-84

PN 39461 (left) 32.12"

PN 39459 (right) 15.8"

In comparison the 74-79 Wags (passenger drop) are:

PN 39339 (left) 33.19"

PN 38808 (right) 14.69"

The outers for either:

PN 38815 9.94"

(same as Chevy outer)

I hope this helps clear this up.

Those are the right sizes, but the 33.12 is on the right, and the 15.8 is the left........hey, thats the same thing I said a few posts back.... Dare I say Genuis:D

In fact, that is a typo in the Warn catalog (left vs. right), but to clarify, it's 32.12, not 33.12.

I hope you are not taking this personally.

You have helped me a lot.
