Are they really going to close the beach?
Two beaches have been closed in Lompoc and Two beaches have been closed in Santa Barbara during the nesting season. Unless we fight hard, we might also show up to a CLOSED sign. Once the Oceano Dunes are closed, there is nothing stopping the unbalanced environmentalists from closing Pismo and Avila beaches!
SNOWY PLOVER and BEACH CLOSURE TO BE CONSIDERED BY COASTAL COMMISSION
On MONDAY, JANUARY 7TH, the California Coastal Commission will meet in Los Angeles at the Westin Hotel-LAX (5400 West Century Blvd. Los Angeles, CA 90045- ph. (310) 216-5858). Among the various issues being discussed on MONDAY, the Commission will:
a) decide whether or not to issue "consistency determination" for an interim Snowy Plover management plan, and,
-SNOWY PLOVERS, item 11b
The Commission will decide whether or not Vandenberg Air Force Base's
Management Plan for the threatened Western Snowy Plover is consistent with the California Coastal Act. If it is found consistent, the plan will take effect from March-Sept., the breeding season for the plover. The result of plan implementation will be the FULL or PARTIAL closure of various beaches in Lompoc where plover populations traditionally breed.
CCC Staff is encouraging the Commissioners to determine that the plan is indeed consistent with the Coastal Act.
Please ENCOURAGE the CCC to NOT close beaches to the public. Stress the importance of protection of the plover via predator management, educating the users, and most important focus needed attention and resources to areas already closed to the public like the Guadalupe Dunes. The adoption of this plan is not warranted.
