The main thing I'm looking for is what wires do I need from the orginal harness? Remeber I like PICs:D

I tried to piece together a TPI harness and it was not worth the effort, just get a Painless TBI harness part # PRF-60101 from Summit Racing and be done with it.

Your need every wire that connects to the ECM, you have to identify which wires are hot wires, which ones are hot only when the key is on, which wires are ground wires, one mistake and you are going to have a problem.

But basically you need the connectors for: distributor, fuel injectors, MAP sensor, EGR solenoid, fuel pump relay, cold start switch, MAS, idle control motor, oxygen sensor, knock sensor, TP sensor, cold start injector, starter solenoid, ESC module, oil pressure switch, and coolant sensor.

So like I said get a painless harness or any other aftermarket one and save yourself alot of time.

Hope this helps, oh you said you like pics ! here is a pic

i swaped a tbi 350 into my yj. i also didnt think it was worth the trouble to figure the wires out. i got a custom haeness from centech. they made it so easy i think i only had to hook up like 4 wires and the rest just plugged in. i will stick with centech for all my harnesses

Thanks for the info but ...................................
What I was meaning to ask was what wires from the jeep harness do I keep? I've hear 4 to 6 wires. I just wanted to id these wires and where they hook to the TBI harness. (we have a painless harness)

Okay.. Duh.. got ya now... :D

I kept the alternator wires, starter solenoid wire, and a large red wire with white strip. This was the ignition wire which has power only when the key is on that orginally went to the the ignition box on my 258.

The only original wire that connects to the painless harness will be the red/white wire that has power when the key is in the run position. Yours may be a different color, get out your meter and find it. The wires that the harness call for constant power you can hook up to the battery with a fuse in line. The ABSOLUTE most important thing on a EFI setup is the ground wires, I recommend grounding them to the body and running a ground wire directly from the battery and connecting them all together in one place, I used a battery tray bolt.

If you intend on using you stock oil psi guage and temp guage you need to keep these wires also. The rest you can clip of tape off. Make sure you don't cut your heater motor wire, reverse switch, 4wd light or brake light wires because they are in the stock harness also..

Hope this helps..

other then temp and oil pressure
alternator wires - goes to the alternator for the amp gauge
starter solenoid wire - goes to the Starter Solenoid on the starter:D
The ignition wire which has power only when the key is on - goes to the power on to the computer
Ground - a known good ground

This 350 came from a truck that had an automatic trans in it will we need a different Prom or something?

Sounds relatively easy
Thanks for your help

I would say yes you will need a new PROM, because of the other items that the ECM controlled on the original truck that you won't have on your Jeep. You can get the PROM tailored to your needs, if you don't want a EGR valve, the PROM can have the EGR deleted, you can program the fan on and off temps if you plan on an electric fan. You can also install a bigger cam if you like and map the PROM for the new cam. EFI rocks you just need to know what you want before you have the PROM burned, I am considering a programmable ECM for my Jeep so I can make adjustments with my laptop quick and easily..

Enjoy the wonderful world of EFI :D :D :D
