Well we are going to wait on the LR until I finish with school. But something has come up. My wife hates the school we are attending now. Infact she isnt to happy with the area we live in. We really want to go back to Washington State and attend school fulltime but cant afford it. We are both looking around the US for a school that carries both our degrees and doesnt have a waiting list a mile long or uppity requirements. I have a full scholarship that pays for most of my tuition and books. If you combine our college funds and investments to live off of until I graduate we have a combined income of about 19K a year. And we have three kids. Anyway to cut to the chase we are looking into both the University of Maine in Fort Kent and the University of Maine in Orono. I was told I could rent a decent sized house in or near Fort Kent for about 400 dollars a month. I am aware though that Fort Kent is pretty much in the middle of no where and my wife wants us to look more into Orono even though she is somewhat open to Fort Kent. Sooooo... I am asking those in Maine, have knowledge of Maine, etc.. to help us out. We both have been eye'ing over websites, etc... but it us always good to ask people that have lived there or are from there. Besides I getting tired of looking at pictures that only show the best of an area. You know the ones i mean... like when you are looking for an apartment online and they show the place in the photo's and it looks brand spankin new but when you get there to check it out its crack ville. Anyway just trying to get a heads up about those areas . If things look good then I plan on flying up this summer and visiting both areas.

Thanks

Maine is nice, the coast is very pompous and the inland is fairly backcountry though, no decent mix. Old fashioned Mainers are great people to talk to.

Have you looked into NH at all? Proabably my favorite of all the New England states as far as a good mix of everything goes. Again though, just stay away from the coast if you want cheap living costs.

Unless you like it REALLY SNOWY AND FAWKIN COLD, go to Orono. There you are only 15 minutes from Bangor, which is a nice small city, and about an hour from the coast. UMO is a good school. I lived just outside of Bangor for 25 years and I really like it. If it was not for my son living here in Tennessee, I would move back there.

Ditto on Mad's comments.
Orono would be my choice. I went to school in Mass and thought THAT was cold, man NH and inland Maine redefine the meaning of the word....BRRRRRRRRR

either way, you'll like the people :)

I am surprised that Adam didn't mention it. Over here we have a local New england board called NEOW.

http://neow.net/

I would ask in the forum there. ( http://forum.neow.net/ ) there are a ton of Main people on board, and they can tell you everything you could ever want to know, including prices of housing, schools system for the kids, etc.
