Did a search Came up empty. Does anyone know who makes custom fuel cells?

Most all race car fabrication shops can do this. Just ask to see some of their work before having them do the work.

is custom????????????

There are a shit load of "custom marine fuel cells out there. And the costs for these are peanuts compared to those for the automotive world. if you have a cabela's catalog, check em out. Moeller is the brand name, and they make just about anysize you might want.

Costs? 28 gallon tank with sending unit and straps, under $120.00.

Make it happen cap'n!:smokin: :smokin: :smokin:  :usa:

There is a guy localy here in WA that does fuel cels for anything he did one for a friends boat and it was not all that complicated but was kinda big it still set him back $400. He had a definate size and shape he wanted and would not settle for anything less if possibe an off the shelf from jegs or something will be alot cheaper.

Hey Rugburn, are these street legal? Not looking for anything too custom but needs to fit up between frame and not hang down too far.

If you were to build your own, what would you use for baffles? Can you buy pre fabbed baffles?

camo

fuel cells use foam for baffles.

a real fuel cell has a outer can, a inner blatter and foam inside.

custom cells are $$$$. my last race car had to have a funky shaped cell to make it fit and it was $800.

check out summit or jegs they have cells for under $200. make sure you get one that has the metal can over the plastic blatter. the plastic only ones get all distorted over time.

I agree with the others. Buy an off the shelf unit, and make it work. But if you really want a custom cell, here's a buddy of mine that does it. Greg's Performance (http://www.gregsperformanceengineering.com)

does anyone have any experience or know how about making your own? how hard is it & what exactly is a baffle? is it just to prevent sloshing around? thanx again

Several you can try are :

JAZ

Desert Rat

Aerotank

Use DOGPILE (www.dogpile.com) or GOOGLE (www.google.com) and search for what you need.
I am going to be running LPG instead of gasoline. Talk about a specialty tank!:rasta:

BTW ... I think Desert Rat and Aerotank are both in AZ.

I found these tanks. The prices are excellent.

http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/content/Item/01/29/43/i012943sq01.jpg

Can anyone tell me why these tanks would be bad? The mounting will be underneath and heavily sheilded with steel plating.

Moeller Below Deck Permanent Fuel Tanks
Replace aging fuel tanks and maximize fuel capacity space with a Moeller below-deck, permanent tank. Get an exact fit with absolutely no guesswork. Seamless, one-piece construction does away with potential weak spots, allowing you to secure the new unit in place and forget it, even if you spend a lot of time running rough water or getting pounded by waves and swells. All Moeller tanks are equipped with an accurate electrical sender that works with any fuel gauge, so you never have to wonder if you have enough fuel left to get back to the dock or to one more fishing hole. All tanks accept 1-1/2" fill and 5/8" vent hose, and brass withdrawal fittings.

With this tank....
27 Gallon 960 16"W x 36.5"L x 11.75"H $99.99
I can make it throught the Rubicon without carrying extra gas in cans.:smokin:

99 for 27 gallons WITH sender. Sweet!

We plan on encasing it in a steel box that will be integrated to the skid and bolted to the frame.

Thanks for all the info!

I just built a new "liquid" tank for my jeep today :D $25. it's all 10 gauge. baffled, 8 welded seams, mild steel. Cool filler setup...dual breathers.

I could make you a "liquid" tank anyway you'd like for 150. it'll be a little heavy just to make sure it'll last. :D

I am building my own as well, I am using 1/8" plate and I am not sure on what to use as baffles. Any ideas out there?

I too made my own. 41 gal because at the time I was driving to the trails.
Baffels can be nothing more than inside walls with the corners cut to a 45*

I took it to a radiator shop on the Garden Highway and they coated the inside for 40 buxs

I say home brew it.

Like Camo said a true cell has 3 parts to it.

A fuel tank is simply some custom shaped sheet metal welded together.

Here is a PIC of the custom " fuel tank " Lawman and me fabbed up

Try Dan at Blue Torch....he made the tank for my TJ and it re-uses the stock fuel pump/sending unit.

I made my own also. The only baffle was to protect the sending unit. I made mine out of 16 gauge and coated the inside with a gas tank sealer made my POR15.

A friend of mine built a custom tank out of steel because he didn't want to spend the money to build one out of aluminum. Then he finds out he has to have it coated, and ends up costing as much as just doing an aluminum one to start with.

Here is a thread with good tank tech.

make one out of cardboard and masking tape to fit where you want it. draw/mark where the lines/filler enter and exit. take this to a air-conditioning shop that has an equipped sheet metal shop and you can get an idea as to how much it would cost to make... this is what im doing on my cruiser right now except the sheet metal guy is a friend so i can use his shear/break ect....

If you want a bombproof cell that we use in our race cars... There is only one way to go:

Fuel Safe (Redmond/Bend, OR)

http://www.fuelsafe.com/

They are the non-puncturable bladder style and they will make any and every configuration from your drawings or plans... Cool stuff but big $$$
