---as for wiring em up. im having major probs. i had my friends dad look at it hes like a master electrician for all sorts of stuff. he found no power going to the rear wires. now...my dad had some jerry rigged trailer hookups be4. i can trace all of themthem back to right where there is only 4 wires going to the back lights from the hunk of wiring harness. then, it branches off like 10 ways. should i just cut it off to the 4 wires and start there? does anyone know which wires go to what? like colors to what? its a 72, w/ a 2f and i dont know what mods the guy did to the harness.

--- one more thing...i think my turn signal switch is fuked up. its allways been weird and acted funky. first off, will this cause my probs im havin and where can i get a new one. also, i could use a new turn lever mechanism. i may make a whole post about just this wiring thing. its pretty weird. any help please....thanks!!! <IMG SRC="smilies/confused.gif" border="0"> <IMG SRC="smilies/confused.gif" border="0">

also, he tested the wires comming from the brake light switch on the pedal assembly and they are gettin action. once again...could it just be my turn signal switch is fukin it all up? thanks again!!!

--- where can i get these parts?! i oredered one from cool cruisers like in december ad they sent me one way dif than mine. i dont wanna do mailoreder if they are gonna send me the wrong stuff. would toyota have it? wardens? im stumped.

Do you mean the turn signal switch at the steering wheel or do you mean the relay down by the clutch pedal brace <IMG SRC="smilies/question.gif" border="0">
If you mean the relay just substitute it with a common replacement that you can get at any local parts house.

The particular lights you show look like they run a single 1034 or 1157 two filament bulb. This has a running light and a brake/turn signal filament. If so, this will be a minor problem for the cruiser wiring, since they have separate brake and turn signal bulbs. The first thing to do is make sure that the original wiring is working properly. If you have it already wired up, you may need to disconnect it first to check that it is working OK. In order to run a single brake/turn filament from the cruiser two wires, you need a 5 wire to 4 wire trailer adaptor or you can make your own with 4 - 6 amp $.49 diodes. You wire two diodes to each brake/turn signal filament with their little arrow heads pointing away from the filament and then run the cruiser brake and turn signal wires to the other ends of the diodes.

--- well could be both im not sure. wouldnt the connectors be differtent for a common replaceent or is there one i can buy for my fj at the parts place?

--- as for the modifing the harness to make these lights work. thats my prob now too. the lights i had on there were one bulb. there is 4 main wires coming out of the harness. my prob is that the origonal wiring ISINT workin properly. i dont have any regular cruiser lights to hookup to make origonal then modify. i have nothing right now! im not very good at wiring and the maul isnt helping me at all. they dont show a color code for the taillight wires!
that does help but im still lost. what do i ask for when i get the diodes and where do i get em? and, in the first place...is it right that i have only 4 wires in the cruiser going to the taillights?!
thanks!

You should have 4 wires coming out of the harness at the rear, so at least that is correct. The four wires are: tail/running lights, L turn, R turn and Brake. If you have no voltage on any of the four wires with the lights, flashers and brakes on, then you do have real problems. Start by checking the fuses, as each has a separate fuse. If the fuse is blown, you probably have a short and you will only find it by disconnecting things one at a time downstream. If you have voltage on both sides of the fuse, then check the switches and turn signal relays to find where the circuit is open. Wires in the harness don't fail unless you fry one or more of them or you have some kind of mechanical damage to the harness. Keep working back until you find the problem. You need to have the color code to track the wires and you can just look at the fuse block wiring or the Toyota manual wiring diagram. You can get the diodes at any Radio Shack or electronic parts store. Just ask for 6 amp (or higher) diodes. If they don't have the little arrow on them, they try them in both directions and wire them up in the direction that the light goes on. Only 1 way will work.

okay thanks pin head. that sounds good. im just going to have to find where it isnty sending power through. then ill do the diode thing. thanks again...ill see what i can come up with.

The rear harness plugs into the feed at the fire wall on the passenger's side. Check the connections there as well as they may have some green crustage on them thus dissallowing the proper connection. When you put them back together, use a little dielectric grease to keep'em clean.
