: Axle saver?

I would ask this in the Heep section but no one visits too often and I want good answers. Anyway, I replaced all the bearings/seals and what not on my buddies D35 and while it was torn down I noticed this nice ring that wore into the axle shaft. Since he was broke and could not get another shaft right now I installed an axle saver bearing. How long will it (suppose) last? I know it's not permanent but just curious. Thanks.

Are you talking about a "speedy sleeve" that slides over the seal surface where the rubber seal has worn a groove?

If so, it should last quite a while...

I think he is refering to the offset bearing (axle saver). This is where the inner bearing race is the axle (gotta love those fine American parts)They are prone to grooving over time.

Since the bearing is moved more inboard away from the wheel center line I would say it wouldn't last as long as the stock bearing.

well the funny thing here is that bearing isnt cheep and a new axle is only 65 dollars for a m35 so it sounds to me like you screwed the pooch on that one if he was broke then run the junk till you can fix it right dont BANDAID the thing

m35  No gearman, my buddy had one when this happened to his axle before he upgraded, never installed, only $10 bucks (new is about $35 I think). So not too bad a bandaid fix. Can you answer my question? About how long will it last approximately? Thanks.
