: 83 3/4 Ton Suburban axles?

Anybody know what axles would be under an 1983 3/4 ton suburban? My father had someone hit him in his suburban and it looks like the insurance company is going to total it out. He can buy it back for pretty cheap-- but he is not sure if it is worth it.

I am not sure what axles it would be-- the rear is definately a semifloater-- would that a 14 bolt? I originally thought the front would be a dana60, but now I am not so sure. Anybody know-- and maybe have an idea as to what they are worth?

The tranny and transfer case were both replaced with rebuilts not to long ago-- maybe 12k miles ago-- the trany is a turbo400, but I don't know what the transfer case is.

If I can convince him to buy it back, I should be able to talk him into giving me the tranny for my landcruiser -- to replace the turbo350 I have now-- if I can find a turbo400/np203 adapter.

The front axle is a 10bolt,The rear is a 14 sf.It has a 9.5"ring gear and uses C-clip to retain the shafts. This stronger than a 12 bolt but not as strong as the 14 bolt FF.Are sure it has a T400 trans. Most had the 700R4 overdrive trans. The 400 were mostly used in 1 tons.Is it a 3 speed or 4 speed? The 400 is a 3 speed and the 700r4 is a 4 speed. As far as putting the 400 in place of the 350 I think it is a waste of time. The 400 is a little stronger but pulls alot of power from the motor. As far as being worth it to buy back.It probally is if it is cheap enough and the damage isn't really bad.If it is still driveable.Fix it up at home and drive it till it dies.Just my opinions.Blazin:rasta:

The 10b front is not worth a whole lot.... but the rear 14b sf is worth something in decent shape... found them to actually be worth more then 14b ff when I was shopping for the 14b sf for myself.... do you know what lug pattern it is? I found the 6 lug ones harder to find and worth even a bit more.....

The tranny is definately a turbo 400, and not a 700R. It has no overdrive. It does not even have a catalytic converter. It is an 83, and I think it was before they added 700Rs and all those other things to the 3/4 ton suburbans.

The axles have 8 lugs-- I counted the bolts on the front diff, and it has 10, so you guys are probably right about the front end being an 10 bolt. For some reason I did not think there were 10 bolts with eight lugs on 3/4 ton vehicles.

Thanks for the advice on swapping a turbo400 for the turbo350 in my landcruiser wagon. The only reason I would do it is because I tow my boat with it, and the hills here in Arizona can be pretty intense on automatic trannys that tow. I had pretty much decided that the swap would not be worth it-- but with the possibility of getting a pretty much new turbo400 for nothing I was considering it. Still it would definatly cost me a several hundred bucks in adapters and driveshafts to swap, plus the cost of having a new tranny mount. Add all those costs up and I could probably replace my TH350 twice for the cost of the swap-- so in the end it is probably not worth it. Plus there is the whole issue of the TH400 taking up more power than the TH350

The 8-lug ten-bolt front is not worthless. It's just as good as an 8-lug d44 front and if someone doesn't believe that, the 8-lug outers will swap with any d44 and someone wanting to convert would like to have them. I know I would have liked them when I was doing a swap a while back.
