Hi,
This is obviously a question for peoples living in the cold:rolleyes:
When the outside temp lower below -15C my engine have a tendency to stall after running at high regime for a couple of minutes (if we can call 2000rpm high :)) . That is has soon has I live the highway and come to a stop sign or a light.
I have a 77 FJ-40 with stock 2F engine.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

Thanks From the looks of things (by your last name that is) you must be a French Canuk so therefore I’ll go easy on your command of the English language but fyi: www.m-w.com might be of assistance in your future attempts to post here. Welcome newbie :flipoff2:

I had a problem similar to this with the points distributor. It always seemed to occur on exit ramps off the highway. Anyway, the long and short of one reason is a loose distributor shaft which was popping up into the cap and causing the whole thing to stop firing--hence the stall.
Another reason may be that the mechanical advance mechanism in the distributor sometimes sticks if the shaft becomes loose or the holdown plate works loose. When you have way too much advance and then let off the gas- at times the combination of advance plus no rpm and last surge of gas into the chambers will produce a stall.
In the cold weather you will get condensation when the warm engine hits the cold air and in the electronics area---a sudden drop to low rpms from high will cause stalling.
Just a few to ponder- theres many more im sure

I have a similar problem at roughly the same temp, the only difference is that my cruiser stumbles nearly to the point of stalling on acceleration, and between shifts. To warm things up under the hood I have completely blocked the outside of the radiator, and taped up the louvers on the hood, with no help. I can't get the water temp above 150 at temps below 0. My set-up is a stock F engine with a Weber 38 and header. Last year I didn't have the header, so the manifold heated the intake. Mark Whatley suggested a fluid hear riser, so I currently have the Man-A-Fre fluid heat riser on order, hoping this will cure my problem. You didn't state if you have a header, so intake temp could be an issue there, if you have a header. If the problem is in the ignition system, I suggest the Pertronix conversion, it works off of a magnetic pulse and eliminates a moisture problem there.
