Anybody got pics of a '40 with a fully coated durabaked exterior?
Any opinions on whether it looks cheesy?

4wheel offroad or four wheeler magazine (can't remember which)had a blue FJ40 with some kind of bed lining product coating the exterior - on the cover of an issue last year. FJ was pretty cool & well detailed, but I was indeferent to the exterior - looked kinda like a bad paint job (orange peel). I think I would have really disliked it, if the rest of the FJ wasn't so nice... just my opinion
I got the issue somewhere at home, but don't have a scanner

That stuff weighs a ton.

I would not do it for that reason alone.

agreed...lots of added weight, not as easy to clean as a gloss spray can.

Hmm...Well, I'll probably do the interior for sure, and maybe just rattle-can the exterior, probably easier to touch up in the long run. Thanks for chiming in.

PM clemsoncruiser on ih8mud (he might be over here now, not sure).

he just got done puttin some blue durabak all over his 77. it looks nice.

the weight thing is tru, but, i mean nolen might come close to cuttin off one of his balls to drop some lbs.

and honestly, it doesn't weigh all that much more than paint.

a gallon of it was only like 12-15 pounds. that got the entire interior done with about 1/4 left over.

I durabaked my 71's exterior in white. I like the way it looks and wears but doubt that I would do it in white again - too hard to clean. I reject the weight argument as it really is only a few pounds heavier than paint. I can't post pics but I'll try to email you some. You can also search under my name and there should be some.

How does it drive on the street with the rear welded?? Snapped any axles?..Birfs? Do you have longs? Pix of it with the boggers???

If you need, sent the pix to cruiser4242@earthlink.net, and I will post em.

Thanks for the kind words. It drives just fine on the street with the welded rear (not that I drive it much) I just air up the tires and smile as heads turn as i slowly make a corner and the tire chirping turns heads. Sorry, no pics with the boggers and it now has the sm420 in, another 1.5" body lift, and 36"TSL's (still sua). I'm proly not going to change it much for a while but I am slowly working on two rockwell fronts, a 6.2 oil burner, 700r4/np205. Have all the parts now but finding time to rework it all is going to be slow.

Sorry - left out part of the answers. No busted axles yet, one busted birf so far. I think I'm going up to Hot Springs next weekend for the WMS run so this may all soon change. Anyone else heading up?
