I have been thinking about making an off-set, high pinion Dana44 rear end for my flatfender. The Jeep has about a 90:1 crawl ratio, standard transmission, and a tired old 305 Chevy V8. Take into consideration that flatfenders weight about 2300lbs stock.

Will the ring and pinion survive in the aforementioned vehicle?

What ratio? What tires? With an 18 t-case I have a hard time seeing that you would need to do this.

34" tires. probably 4.88 gearing.

What is your opinion as to whether or not the ring and pinion will survive.

it probably will live if you treat it nice but factor in about a 15% loss of strength over a standard rot. 44 due to it running on the coast side of the ring:D

I think you are asking for trouble with a High Pinion 44 behind a V-8. But if you are easy on it you might be able to make it last. But then again I couldn't keep a regular rotation 44 behind my 5.0.

Bellyup's runnin' a RC44 in his TJ with 35's, and he's probably pushin' around 4,200 lbs, so he has a good 2,000lbs on ya'.. I don't think he's had any problems at all with his. E-mail him, he can tell you more....

With those tires you will probably get by for years but if you do alot of street driving that run synthetic oil. Is this for rocks or mud or a little of everything? If you are build it as a rock crawler then you are asking for trouble I think Camo summed it up.
