I just drug home a new project today. it is an 84 720 ext cab with a 5spd and an 85? i think toyoat axle hanging off some yj springs out front. This was a project that a fellow member of the site stopped because of diverted intrest to his SAS on his ZR2. I have done some trade over s60 swaps in fullsize fords but nothin like this. What are some good tips out thier? has anyone done this before i am sure they have? What axle did you use. What about steering knuckles etc and steering setups. as for the driveshaft How TF is that suppose to get from center to right hand drive or do i need to find a diffrent case or whats up with that. Thanks For the Ideas :D Travis

You could go 2 different routes here.

1. Keep the Toyota axle and install a 2 wheel drive Transmission with a divorced transfer case

or

2. Switch that axle over to a Jeep Wagoneer axle (drivers side drop)

There was one guy who had a HB pickup with Dana 60s passenger drop, and he ran a double CV driveshaft diagnolly. http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=193249 I don't know if I would trust doing that, but he claims he didn't have any problems.

why would i install a 2wd tranny? It is alrady a divorced transfer case. ?? Travis to me it looks like either way you go you are going to have to get the driveshaft pretty far to one side or the other

I think your thinking of the 87- nissans. 720s have a divorced transfer case, with an almost centered front output.

Moremph - You could just run the driveshaft at an angle, it would probably work fine as long as the angles are OK. Or if you want more gearing options, OTT makes a divorced adapter for a toyota transfer case. For steering, there are a TON of companies makeing steering stuff for the toy axle, that should be easy.

Yeah i have spent like that last 10 hrs researching and have found alot of cool stuff. I think i will use some of the toy high steer arms and make my own tierods and drgalinks. Then we will have to figure out the transfer case deal.

Id like to get it going and wheeling for the summer. Next winter i would like to pull her apart and put in a 305 700r4 combo i have sittin in the garage. need to go thru both of em first, so i want to wait till the winter.

Thanks travis

i'd say just get a toyota divorced adapter(OTT industries makes one for a toyota case) and keep the toy axle

is the yota axles and wrangler springs the way to go for the SAS? i know the yota axles have a huge aftermarket. i have an 85 720 that i would like to get a straight axle under. do you guys know of a good site that could guide me thru it? i did use the search button. sorry to jack your thread man.

have you tried to search @ Nissan4Wheelers.com yet? they have an abundant amount on nissans and alot on sas. i havnt looked at info on a sas because i will be waiting some time before i decide to go with that, if anything ask them they will give you lots of info. Nissans kick arse. i have a 92 sev6 king cab and it goes everywhere my yota and bronco wouldnt. and it is jus as good as my stock wrangler i had. Good luck on your project.

hrmm, what about rotating the transfer case, just a stupid thought off top of my head if the rear output is centered well then maybe you can rotate the unit.

rear output is centered. Iwas thinking about using a chevy transfer case (did they have anything that was ever divorced?) because of the passenger drop. I plan on stuffing a 305 700r4 in it next winter so then the transfer case would hold up. Travis
