I have a chevy 350 and need to put the distributor in. When looking at it from the the front bumper, does the motor turn clockwise or counterclockwise?

What's the best way to turn the motor with no starter and such on it?

looking straight down at the top of the distributor it spins clockwise.

i'd say put a breaker bar on the crank pulley nut. might be a good idea to pull the spark plugs though, or you'll have a hell of a time getting it to go anywhere :flipoff2:

excuse me, which way does the crank turn? (that distro info might be useful in the future though, thanks.)

I think Hondas are the only engines that turn counter clock-wise.

Look at the fan and see which way it spins.

have someone man the crank. spin it one way, if the distributor is spinning clockwise, that's the rotation of the motor, if not, it's the other way.

I spins whichever way I turn it.

Scott, that's the problem though. I'm getting it set up to put the distributor in so I can't tell which way it spins. I'll wait for someone who has one to let me know. Thanks.

I think what he meant was, which way do the fan blades pitch? Using your theory, the engine would turn whichever way you spun it too.

You're a sharp one you are. You know what, I thought that the other day while I was sitting in a lecture or something, but I forgot it after working on other mechanical stuff all weekend. Thanks.

Yes, what I meant was which way will the fan turns when the motor is running will be the direction of crank rotation.

It runs clockwise, unless it's a second boat engine.
The dist turns clockwise too.

Some engines other than marine applications turn counter clockwise.
