: First Driveshaft can I get a cookie?
moveaside 03-07-2004, 06:05 PM Made my first rear driveshaft out of a front cherokee shaft out of the boneyard. Good old harbor frieght tubing cutter and angle grinder to cut the flange off. And then fired up the Lincoln to put it back together. Not hardcore but not bad for my first attempt.
Can I get a cookie:flipoff2:

oldjeep 03-07-2004, 06:11 PM Looks bent to me too, and it must be pretty bad to be able to see it on a shaft that short. How did you align it? Also wondering is that fresh paint, or did you weld in grease and dirt?

I know, I'm just giving you shit. :flipoff2:
BlazerZR2 03-07-2004, 06:17 PM is it just me or does it look out of phase as well:confused:
Recurve 03-07-2004, 07:22 PM Sometimes camera lenses make straight stuff look bent. However, it definately looks out of phase. May not be that important on a CV shaft but why not keep it in phase if you can. Maybe he can pull it part and turn it to get it closer in phase even if it is a trail spare.
ItsaCJ6 03-07-2004, 07:33 PM Dude, It might be bent:D :D :D
withamc 03-07-2004, 08:19 PM It's bent
ShawnM 03-07-2004, 09:22 PM Dude, your shaft is bent, and short! :flipoff2:
chit ill be all bent up anyway when it gets wheeled...
I agree to a large extent on keeping yokes in phase and pinion angles matched and such. But when it comes right down to it, you can get away with ALOT.
Nice spare though, especially for ten bucks! Does it straighten up when you rub it:D

Dude, your shaft is bent, and short! :flipoff2: Best wisecrack so far thank you. Maybe I'll have this POS driveshaft for one of you to get off the trail with someday:flipoff2:
monkeyevil 03-08-2004, 12:11 AM It's pretty easy to just pull the splines apart and put it back in phase...
Buy a harbor freight straight edge :flipoff2:
1972CJ5+1 03-08-2004, 03:51 AM Does the phase matter on a cv shaft? It's early in the am, but I was thinking it didn't because the accelerations were canceled out by the cv joint. The same reason that you can point the pumpkin at the tcase instead of placing them on parallel planes. Like I said, it is early though.

Steve N 03-09-2004, 12:18 AM It only looks bent to the left.
:flipoff2:
JeepinDoug 03-09-2004, 12:54 AM You can even see the bend in the shadow. But atleast the shadow looks in phase.

REDNECKTOY 03-09-2004, 03:26 PM not sure if anyone noticed but it looks a lil bent:flipoff2:
nope nobody noticed, but they are saying chicks dig crooked shafts...
Might be the makings of another thread though.
psychobilly 03-10-2004, 10:02 PM put in phase, I would think it is important even with a cv. A lil hint on making them straight for the next time stick a lil tack weld on it then bolt it in your heep, using a dial gauge (or a pencil taped to a jack or somthing) turn the shaft with the dial or pencil next to it checking for run out and tap it straight with a hammer, then weld the thing together. Makes damn near perfect shaft.
socalchef 03-11-2004, 11:48 AM if the yoke ears are in the same position.
