I got a question about two piece axles. I have done many searches on pirate as well as on the web and I can’t figure out how a two piece works and how to tell a one piece axle from a two piece? On a two piece is the hub separate form the axle shaft and on a one piece the hub and the axle shaft are connected? I am really confused about one piece and two piece axles and need some clarification.

two peice(also known as a tapered axle) axle has a flange that gets held onto the axle by a large nut and a key to keep it from spinning on the shaft,it is also tapered for a very tight fit.

Yes, the hub and axle shaft are separate pieces. There is usually a dust cover hiding the axle flange nut......STAY AWAY! One piece is much better.

Look around and you can usually find an AMC 20 nicely setup for dirt cheap when someone decides to upgrade to larger tires. I bought a 20 with one piece axles, a detroit locker, welded tubes, and a truss for $325. The one piece axles kits almost cost that much.

I'll sell you an AMC 20 with Summer's Bros one piece axle kit, 4.10 gears, and lock rite... One small issue though, it suffers from the same fate a lot of those thin walled 20's do, a bent housing:flipoff2:
