I hate to use the word jackass, so I wont.

To put it in lame-ons terms, a larger tire will have more side wall, "thats the part on the side of the tire".
This can cause several things to happen, "things you might not want to happen" such as tire hop and loss of steer.
With a larger wheel you don't lesson side wall in comparison to your tire, you just don't gain as much

Nice to see people finding abouts Michelin military tires. Finally. I started using 9.00R16 XLs in 1986 in my Perkins powered FJ45.
Re wheel height: these tires come in 36" (9.00R16 XL/XZL) and 38.7" (11.00R16XL and 325/85R16XML) in 16". If one wants to use these outstanding tires in >39" then 20 rims are required. 11.00R20s seem to be popular, as re 12.00 and 14.00s. They also come in "low profile" (the term is relative only!) in 335 and 365/80R20 (40.7" and 43.1") and taller, up to about 46". And there's also 16.00R20s which are about 53" tall. I guess I wouldn't want to use bigger than 335/80R20 on 1 ton axles.

These big Michelins are all DOT rated. When I run 62 mph tires at 70-75, I add 5-10 psi. They have very high load ratings. In the words of the LC guru Rob Mullen "If they put speed ratings on Swampers no one would buy them".

yup, what Charles said... & they're actually round. That big green bastard can go down the road at 50mph with no vibration other than the engine's spnning damn near 4000RPM, & the wheels are split rim, not the right width for the tires, & not balanced at all... but I guess you'd get that quality out of swampers too if they were $700 each new.

The Safari Gard's rig is standard 8 lug D$trac axles...I forget where Greg said he got the rims...Alcoa? Not for me fur shur. They'd look good on a slamed Excursion though.

here in San Jose it is near epidemic levels. I saw a excursion slammed with daytonas:barf: and the "chrome" add on crap around every body line. tons of chome w/ gold rims? FUGLIEST thing i have every seen.

I am just waiting for some fool w/ a 12 tone paint job complete with nekkid girlie murals with 3x gold zenith and a gold plated safari guard to go bummping "Nuthin' but a G thag" on their way to the grocery store.

I actually try to laugh as loud as i can when i see them, i have gotten flipped off a couple times, but it bursts their Playa Bubble.

STAY UP PLAYAS!:flipoff2:

'Bout time Safari Guard builds a rig that's worth a darn. From the stories about radius arm breakage I'd be afraid to ride in their rig.
