I bought an old Warn overdrive for my Dana18. When I accelerate quickley the od pops out of gear (when I'm in 1:1). What is the problem? Could it be the syncromesh? Oh yea, it shifts pretty roughly.
thanks,

Mine will do that under heavy load, in reverse. Yours is just more worn out than mine. You'll probably need a rebuild on it. I suppose Advance Adapters probably has a rebuild kit.

I don't know the answer to your problem, but I know who to call. Drop Herm The Overdrive Guy (mailto:hermtheoverdriveguy@yahoo.com) a line. He can rebuild it for you or sell you the parts to rebuild it yourself.

I've got a low mileage unit that I pulled out of my Jeep. I ran it for about a year. Under 10K miles. Nut came loose and scrapped bearings. Unit was still running great when pulled but I noticed the wear when I had it out. This should have the parts you need to fix up yours plus extras. Let me know if interested. $225

I don't think I need to canibalize another overdrive just to get mine working. You should post this over at the for sale board, you won't have a hard time selling it.

mine started doing this right before I threw it out. I would first make sure that the big nut is tight, and if thats not the problem, I would assume that it is either the rollers, or the small "pinion" type gear. Mine had all the teeth coming off of that too. IMO it is better to figure out a way to keep from running these overdrives, they wear out very quickly, and you wil find that they are not cheap to rebuild either. I went through 3 rebuilds in less then 50,000 miles.

Yes, that's correct. He's on the WillysTech mailing list, but I haven't seen a post from him in a while. I'll see if I can find a phone number for him when I get home.
