Are there parts from a fullsize truck that might make the wranglers np231 stronger?

the NP231d out of fullsize Dodges has a wider chain which lends itself to some added strength. From what I understand if you can get it for nothing go far it...only 3 parts to change over. If not, don't waste your money, I havn't seen too many chains break, stretch yes...

There might be other parts but I can't seem to think of any right now. Heavier duty output shafts would be cool but I think their the same....

Why not just put in a Dana 300? Easy to find...cheap.

If your jeep is 91 auto or newer, the Dana 300 will bolt up directly. If ya got the AX-15, AA has the adapter for $208US.

How much would a D300 be? I already have a np231, if the D300 wouldn't be much more than a slip yolk eliminator then it would be a good idea.

Shop around on the D300. I've seen them for pretty cheap at swap meets. Like $300 for some. A good unit will run you a bit more, but it all depends. You can sometimes find decent prices on ebay, but 4x4 swap meets tend to yield some better deals.

The D300 is going to need to be flipped if you want to use the driver's side drop pumpkins that you already have. If you are going another route, then like el General said, it bolts in.

Would it(D300) bolt up to an 87 AW-4 ?

Edit: I found this in another thread.
"Just thought i would add this. I sell an adapter/clocking ring for putting a 300 behind the ax-15,aw-4. i also sell clocking rings for any other tranny. i sell them for 160 US and they can be shipped ups or purolater in a letter format so it is very in expensive."

Anyone done this swap?

no a dana 300 will not bolt up to a 87 aw-4 it has a 21 spline out put. You need to have a mid 91 and up aw-4, even then you need a spacer or clocking ring between the tranny and dana 300.

Fawk:mad:

Another question. Is there a *good* t-case with a passenger side drop that would fit an 87 AW-4?

Ok, I was waiting for someone to say the word flipped.
How much is the flip kit??? Take the price of a 300 + the Kit + (maybe new driveshafts because they would have to be longeR)

are we not into the 1200$ range? (Maybe I am just thinking in CDN dollars)

Seems like a more expensive upgrade then what people say it is.
(Maybe just the newbie in me) LOL
