Its winch time for my EB. A friend of mine was saying that for the money of a 8274-50 I should just get a M12000.

Has anybody ever found the 8274 to run out of poop ?
Do I really need the extra pulling power of the 12000 ?
Does anyone run the 12000 on their trail rig ?
Is the 12000 too slow ?

Tell you what, you buy the 8274 and I'll trade ya. I've got the M12000. Great winch, but man it's slow. Got it in trade so thats what I used. When it dies it will be an 8274, no doubt. And the extra cable length on the 8274 would have come in handy a few times.

i can tell yah i have maxed my xd9000i to the point were it wouldnt pull anymore, i snapped my rear yoke and 1 front axle so i basically had nothing helping the winch and was pinched between rocks and going up hill. the 8274 is a 8000 lb winch which in my mind isnt enuff id go with the 12000, it or the 15000 will be my next. and slower is better, less chance of getting yah finger caught in the thing. i did that 2 summers ago and almost lost the tip of my finger.

I agree with what has been said. I had a 8274 that I stalled out on my 4-runner in the snow. I now have a 10,000lb warn on my yj. I was stuck past my 38's in the snow with 2 rigs hooked together behind me stuck trying to free me. I pulled about 50ft of cable out, and pulled all three Jeeps at once. The 10,000lb is slow but it never even wimpered to the pull. The 8274 is a great winch but I wouldn't get rid of my 10K for anything but a larger winch. Go big!

I don't think that my M12000 is any slower than any other Warn in-line winch when under a good working load, while the 8274 is fast the 8k rating could get you in a bind if you are good and stuck, and I have seen the 8274 slow way down when pulling hard, but it is nice to have the speed when winding the cable back up :P

My m12000 pulled my 8200lb Dodge Diesel almost 200 feet sunk down to the frame in good Louisiana black mud and never really got hot !!

My Jeep sports a M8000 but that was a money decision, I figure it will do fine if I still have the drivetrain working but it I ever get good and stuck and break something I feel it will leave me looking for help...

i dont really get the line speed thing
i am not in a huge hurry to give up pulling power when i am buried to the frame.
the CA guys always say 'i can double line for hard pulls', so can a 12000

gotta consider the hs9500 as well. i love mine and have never stalled it.

line speed is handy for when you are winching out of a stuck and driving at the same time. keeps the line taught if you momentarly make forward progress under engine power.

When you are on the Rubicon with 6 feet of snow on it, and having to winch every 15 minutes, it's nice to have a fast winch. ;)

The M12000 has 125 of 3/8ths which is nice and safer working load. The drum is BIG so that is nice.

8274-50 is wicked fast, 150ft but it is only 5/16ths

All of the M12000s I have heard used make terrible noises (why I dunno) but have known of no failures other than the solinoid wiring issue some of them had a couple years back.

8274s sound a lot nicer and have been around since the dawn of time.

I sold my 8274 in favor of a M12000.

I liked the 8274, definately the strongest of the 8-9K winches.

THe thing about the M12000 is that it is so freaking strong I never have to double line it like I did the 8274.

I don't wheel mud but you can get in some nasty stuff on rocks and my Cruiser is damn heavy.

I have had both and I say get the M12000.

I just got the 8274-50 I think its the best winch out there... I have seen that winch out work alot of the big boys, and its badass fast, Sometimes I hook up my naked fat girlfriend to it and it pulls her like nothing, its great dude she screams a little but I live out in the wood's you know, But anyway I think the 8274 fucking rocks and it cost me $838.00 at Advance Auto can beat that shit, damn I see demons.:smokin: :smokin: :smokin:

All depends on the vehicle. I have a new 8274 on the yj and an older 8274 on the tj. They work awesome. The 12000 is a good winch for a heavy truck but not for a light one. You might as well go for speed on a eb. If you had a f350 or suburban than the 12000 would be the way to go. The 12000 would be a nice trailer winch as it is nice and s l o w .
