As always, many stoeln vehicles are found very close to home, so be sure to drive around *everywhere* nearby....aprtment parking lots, alleys, etc...

cbassett 03-09-2004, 02:38 PM Stomach just dropped when I read this thread. I'll keep an eye out here in the east bay, and cruise the foothills/niles area after work..
As well as build the anchorpoint I've been talking about for a while.:(

texican 03-09-2004, 03:22 PM This makes me sad, mad and frustrated......I honestly think I could bust a cap on someone stealing my Cruiser, without a second thought.

Landpimp 03-09-2004, 03:46 PM makes me sick! best of luck finding it. Recently a fj62 went missing in Portland, it was gone for over a month, turned up in fine shape just out of gas.............so there is hope. As well I got mine back last year when stolen. local 40 stolen 6 months ago, recovered just a few days latter.........dumbass's stole a cops fj40:rolleyes:
but there SURE seems to be more and more of it happening! only Cruiser I dont worry about is the 2000 UZJ.........heck I can replace that.....hard to replace older Cruisers.
LoJack is worth the money IMOP.
if ya shoot someone.......just make sure they are dead.
Shipwreck 03-09-2004, 03:55 PM Simon and Chris,
Several years ago my cruiser was stolen from my driveway in south San Jose. It was found the next morning out by Calero reservoir in an undeveloped area that was slated for future home construction. Stripped of course. I checked out the spot and found all sorts of car parts, pieces of stereos and other evidence that someone was stripping cars out there. Chris may want to check out some of the rural areas in south county.
I'd be willing to bet that who ever stole the cruiser couldn't pass up a little four wheeling before they tore into it. That area is the jurisdiction of the county sheriffs department and county Parks department. I would send a flier out to both of those departments in case they are not communicating with S.J.P.D.
This really pisses me off! Good Luck
rufio 03-09-2004, 04:16 PM I hate thieves...i'll keep my eye out down here at ucla...and when i'm home in fresno, the car jacking capital of the world! good luck buddy, that sucks big hairy @##%!
cbassett 03-09-2004, 04:36 PM Thanks for the info Shipwreck. I can't get down to south SJ today. I'm going to checkout the Niles area on the way home, as it's a popular place for dumped cars in the east bay.
faultlinefabrication 03-09-2004, 04:46 PM You guys are awesome! Thanks for keeping an eye out.
Simon
megolfer 03-09-2004, 05:03 PM I will keep an eye out in the fresno, visalia, tulare area.

Just heard from Chris. The SJPD has found the truck and are working on an arrest.Don't know the status of the truck yet.He is lucky to have found it.But thanks everyone for your help and lock your Cruisers up tonight. Thanks
Simon
Oh geez... I felt sick to my stomach this whole thread. That makes
me feel much better. Can the thief be made public?
Landpimp 03-09-2004, 06:36 PM GREAT news:)
Please guys look into LoJacking your Cruisers, I have 4 of mine done now. 3 are set up to call me and/or email me if they are moving without me in them. Its a very good and simple system, no monthy fees and a very good recovery rate(like 90% within 24 hours) The cops love the system as when they get a report of a car stolen with LoJack installed they can almost be sure to actaully catch the scum bags........and then that leads them to more car stealing scum and so on.
LoJack works with the police, the revievers are installed in the cop cars and planes, if a rig has LoJack activated then any cop car within 3-5 miles will pick up the signal and can home in on the car(and hopefully chopshop)
Again GREAT news and I hope the 40 is still in good shape, it prolly is as its been gone only a short while.
John H
ROCK HUGGER 03-09-2004, 06:57 PM I am so glad it was found, I just hope they did not thrash it to bad.
74_Chevota 03-09-2004, 07:05 PM That is great they got the cruiser back and i hope it is still in the condition that it was in. That is one of the nicest cruisers i have seen. I dont understand why you would feel the need to steal something that u know will get looks everywere you go. Mabey i just dont have the criminal mind?
man oh man, that is awesome!!! I hope it's not stripped or otherwise messed up.
Toploader 03-09-2004, 08:06 PM Saw Georg today and he told me it was ripped off, I couldnt believe it! Glad they found it! This is great news.

I looked into doing that and the police departments in the town I live in and around me either didn't support it or didn't know what it was. What a rip off :(
orangefj45 03-09-2004, 09:18 PM so far all they know is that both drivelines are fawked up.
somebody probably beat the snot out of it , busted the rear and then drove it until the front let go also.
pretty damn stoked that chris is getting his rig back in one piece (more or less)
THIEVES SUCK! shit fuck cock .....(i thought there were 7 words the fcc would'nt let you say!)
CruisD64 03-10-2004, 12:35 AM geez, I better be really careful then. I live in San Jose and my cruiser will have a fresh coat of paint on it on friday so it'll be catching a lot of attention. I'd better look into that lowjack system....
Man, that's great news. Prosecute!!! I hope his truck is fine, that's an awesome rig!!!
Deep South Cruisers 03-10-2004, 05:13 AM and to think the wife LAUGHED at me for chaining my Cruisers up:rolleyes:
I hope the thieves spend some jail time with big Bubba the butt sex fiend:flipoff:
cbassett 03-10-2004, 07:31 AM Whoohooooo! Glad to hear it!!
Post the criminal's name up when you get it!
DSC,
Yeah, I got the same laughs out of my wife over the past few months. I sent her a link to this and the other local thefts; she's not laughing anymore.
Deep South Cruisers 03-10-2004, 07:44 AM well, I realize my paranoia comes from having a car stolen back in the 80's and driving around on my lunch hours looking for it:mad:
The thing about the wifey is she's convinced the Cruisers aren't worth anything and NOBODY would want to steal them:rolleyes:
by the way....it is imperative that you remember the chain BEFORE you try and sneak in a ride around the block:eek: yes, I did launch the 45 with the chain still attached:rasta:
Deep south your wife senario, sadly, sounds all too familiar.

What is the (ballpark) going rate to install the system on a rig?
CAS
Landpimp 03-10-2004, 07:45 PM I had(but its ran off ;) a sheet with the prices when Connie(my girlfriend) was selling them, but this is pretty close. I had her get signed up at the car lot she was at...........just so we could get a deal ;)
retail
$690 for the basic Lojack
$300 for the early warning(calls when moved)
Connie was giving deals to locals that had Cruisers
$420 for the basic LoJack
$230 for the early warning
thats installed.
$35 more if LoJack comes to your house to install.
BTW cost is just a bit over $500 for the combo, so retail is 2xs.
there are some warnatees and other stuff, they pay a certain amount it not recovered. I didn't get any of that.
Most places I have seen sell at full retail. Try to find a used car dealer.......they will prolly work you the best deal, the dealer doesnt do the install, LoJack does.
Connie just started work at a motorcyle shop.....and she is hoping to get hooked up with LoJack again....
Oh and seeing how you have a Tank, LoJack makes a unit for heavy equipment ;) its waterproof and prolly more shock resistant, but must be bought thru LoJack not a dealer.

Both driveshafts busted and in turn trashed the underneath of the tub and exhaust
Coleman cooler gone
Hilift gone
T case damaged
Twin stick broken ???
Chris is yet to see the truck in person as he is out of town. Its funny that everyone is talking about LoJack. He had an appointment last week to have it installed but missed it due to work.
Even with the damage done he is still very lucky to have gotten it back. Thanks again everyone.
Simon
faultlinefabrication 03-10-2004, 08:51 PM Oh yea, No arrests made:(

Simon
My Cousin had his Toyota mini truck stolen years ago. They found it in an apartment complex parking lot, the police took no prints.
Atleast he got it back. And it sounds like most of the damage is repairable atleast.
Deep South Cruisers 03-11-2004, 06:39 AM all too common...
-When my car was stolen there were prints everywhere and not one was taken... there were 3 people inside when it was pulled over and not one was caught. When I went to the impound yard to get it they acted like I was the criminal.
-My mother in-law had her purse stolen at work while she gift wrapped a BIBLE for a lady:rolleyes: The thief wrote her own name on the stolen checks but was never picked up even though we called the police and they knew where she lived.
-Our house was robbed when I was a kid, my grandmother was in the hospital and another family member knew we were gone and stole everything. We told the police and they went to all the pawn shops and told them not to buy our stolen stuff from him (brilliant huh?) no arrest ever made, no merchandise ever recovered.
Protect yourselves gang, walk softly and carry a big stick.
helocat 03-11-2004, 09:24 AM Good to hear he got it back. Damage sucks but can be fixed.
My theft prevention:
1. Busted up most of the time so it’s hard to steel.
2. Concealed Carry permit. (OR and WA)
3. Good insurance with stated value. (If it’s gone or totaled they just pay the full value of the policy, all the adjusting is done up front. This is more $ but worth it IMHO.)

Easy for someone to say when they work for an Insurance company  :flipoff2:
Glad to hear it's back and somewhat still in working order.
BTW: Lanceman if you are reading this, have you found your Cruiser yet?
Travis
1963landcruiser 03-11-2004, 12:38 PM SO.... Simon is correct about the damage known thus far and George is probably correct about what happen to cause the damage (someone beat the snot out of it). Needless to say I'm stoked to have the vehicle back in possession. I head back home today and will have a look at the cruiser probably first thing tomorrow morning to figure out the extent of "ALL" the damage...
The great news is that when I talked with the cop I demanded he take prints off the truck. I'm told that they got some good prints.. So hopefully they will match some low life out there, if I find out who is was.... I'm breaking knee caps and fingers... then I will pass the name and address on to everyone here to do what you all feel necessary....
Oh... and I'm not sure that Simon or anyone else has mentioned this but the truck was stolen from right in front of my house in the middle of the DAY!
Finally, my LoJack appt has been rescheduled for Monday... I will not miss this one ;)
Thanks for everyone’s help and support! This truck was found because there is a tight network of LandCruiser owners out there, lets keep it that way..
Look forward to seeing you on the trail soon....
Thanks
Chris
ScottFJ40 03-11-2004, 02:01 PM Fawk me, I've had his pic as my laptop background for awhile. Godamn stinking thieves need to be erased.
ScottFJ40 03-11-2004, 02:05 PM Damn, talk about an emotional rollercoaster, I was sick a minute ago, posted, then read the rest of the thread. Shew! Glad it was recovered.
Slowerthanu 03-11-2004, 02:20 PM If they steal it when I am not around then I will take the proper leagal actions to catch them and rcover my vehicle.
If I catch them in the act, they can say hello to my Custom II and some Cor-Bon 230 grain +P hollow points (not That I would neccesarily shoot them, just scare them).:)
Landpimp 03-11-2004, 02:40 PM they printed our Cruiser after it was found..............as of this date there are 50+ scum busted and a few chop shops.....meth labs and other criminal stuff. Not due to the prints themself but Connie who just happen to notice something odd a month or so latter..................don't fawk with a Cruiserchicks Cruiser:D
I can't beleive you has an apointment for Lojack...........what timing!
SO SO glad its back, maybe worse for the wear but its home :)
Deep South Cruisers 03-11-2004, 02:45 PM Could you be more vague  :flipoff2:
Landpimp 03-11-2004, 02:53 PM I could have........its a really long story.
put it this way.......almost every chop shop/car theft ring bust in Pierce county is becuase the dumbass's that stole the 62 pulled up in a van behind Connie oneday........wearing her hat...........from there it went down hill fast for them(and anyone they rolled over on)............we know people who know people........:)
to be honest I blew it off when it happened as just a wierd conincidence..........but Connie made some calls........and damn it if she wasn't right on the money.

stupid hurts!!!
good job on not just letting it go, some people have to learn the HARD way.
Cruzzr 03-12-2004, 07:37 AM Okay, I gotta add a story too....
First...I AM SO GLAD IT IS BACK!!!! TOO AWESOME
Now for my story.....
Back on July 4th weekend this year we had a kid and his friend come by the house at 10:30 at night. The one kid was 14 and the other looked mid 20's. The 14 year old went to school with my son. They kept ringing the doorbell but we had all the lights out and in the back of the house. I just thought they would go away...whoever it was. They kept ringing the bell so I went to see what the hick was happening. This kid said to me, "Andrew (my son) told us if we came by that you would take us to get some fireworks." I said, "My son is a asleep and I know for a fact he would not do that." He said,” Come on man, take us to get some fireworks...he said you would." I said, "You lying piece of shit, I know for a fact he would not and I want you off my property and don't come back." So the older kid grabbed him and started walking off. Well the kid did not like it and started mouthing off. The other kid was telling him to shut up and come on. That was on Thursday night. The kids lived in an apartment next door to our house. So Saturday night (Sunday morning) and woke up and went to the restroom. Walked around the house as I always do making sure everything is okay in the house and all kids are in bed when I noticed the back gate was standing open. Got dressed and went to close it. 1 month later I noticed the go-kart I had bought my kids was missing. So I got the paperwork out and made a report with serial #'s. Got a detective assigned to the case and told him everything. Lived in this house since 93 and never had anything happen before. Plus I had a chainsaw and weed eater and other tools sitting on the back porch next to the go-kart. Cop tells me I prolly will never see it again. I INSIST he go over to the kids apartment cause we KNOW he has it. You just have to have been in my shoes to understand why we knew this. We talked to a lot of people who knew him and this is not the first time he stole something. Anyway, the cop goes over and looks around and says there is no way he has it cause they don't have porches or balconies. I cry foul but what can I do.
So jump forward to Friday last week (March 5th). This kid has been in alternative school for getting into trouble at school...they kicked him out for fighting with teachers......anyway he comes back to school from being gone all year and approaches my son...tells him "I heard your go kart got stolen." My son says,” Who told you" He says, "One of your friends, I just wanted to tell you I bought a go kart for $600." My son comes home and tells me this and then says, "Dad, there is no way he could have because he has no job and his mother is disabled and collecting disability from the government." I said smart man. So I called the detective to tell him and he wasn't available for 4 days. SO I finally got pissed and called back and asked for the supervisor. Supervisor tells me this is not enough evidence for them to do anything....I am not shitting you!!......I said in a nice way, "You can't just go talked to him about it" The supervisor says he will pass my message to the detective. I got pissed and hung up. I told a neighbor next door to me and she said go talk to the maintenance man. So I walked over and asked him if he had seen a black go kart running around. He said"Yep, BJ had it and he got kicked out for riding it through the parking lot." I said,” Where did it go", He said "To his Uncles house in South Dallas" He went on to say that the kid had been chaining it up to a tree in the back of the building. They finally had to call the police on him. The patrolmen told him to move it or they were going to take it from him and fine his mother. So, his mother called his Uncle and said come get it out of here. They all asked where he got it and he told them someone gave it to him. They claim they didn't believe him but had to cause they didn't know a go-kart was stolen..... I had steam coming out of my ears at that point. I went to the ATM and pulled out $100 and gave it to the maintenance guy for a reward. I wanted to make sure he kept up the honesty. I went home and faxed a letter to the detective saying I found the go-kart and where it was. Finally yesterday the detective goes to the kids house and talks to the mother....she's acting all innocent and says she didn't know and he was gone. After a little more pressing she says he is at the Uncles house. So they all go to the Uncles house. There it sat....my go-kart and 3 others....all the serial numbers scratched off.....kid say some kid gave him all the go-karts. Uncle says he had to believe the story cause he hadn't heard anything else. Cops take all go-karts but no arrest. They take a statement from everyone and leave. Detective calls me and says come get it. I say well I am pressing charges cause this isn't the first time he has done it. Detective says the kid gave them the a name of a kid they are now looking for. Since that kid is 22 they will probably only charge him with the theft. I scream foul again as the family is BSing you. He says, "I don't believe so cause the mother has had 2 strokes and she stands to lose her disability checks if she is convicted for helping a felon."
So I ask you, what would you do? Some people are just telling me to just get the go-kart and go away and leave well enough a lone. This is why our society is going to shit. People letting kids roam freely and getting away with anything but murder.
