: super birfs proven in a light buggy, what about...
Booger Weldz 01-05-2002, 07:18 PM seems that mr. longs super birfields are workin out pretty good for desert toy, but he is running them in a really light buggy(not to discredit the birfs). anyone beating them in a heavy truck or 4runner??
i run an early 4runner always loaded with camping gear, etc and was hoping someone could shed some light here. i dont wanna be breaking much more expense pieces that couldnt be repaired on the trail either. a birfield is a hassle, a diff is a ruined trip(for me) and id be pretty fawked.
its very exciting to see our hobby developing product wise as it is. more and more people are wheelin toys because of these type of inovations! people like my self who couldnt afford to build a $20,000+ rig, but are still having a shit load of fun thanks to the affordabilty of the toy pickup/4runner buildups....
anyway, whats the skinny??:smokin: :smokin:

Bones 01-05-2002, 08:15 PM Well, I called him, and was real close to odrering a set, but then I got to thinkin'.....I have 4 spares and a even more inner axles, so I think I will let my "supply" run down, and go from there. I do think they are a great product, but they also need a bit more testing IMHO. The price is definatly right though.
ive got a set of longs birfs, not put in yet, but from what bobby told me, desertoy seems to be about the only tester with a light buggy, most of the washington users run standard toyota's, some with non-toyota HP.....brad
toymaniac 01-05-2002, 10:47 PM I've got longs in mine. It is an 81 shortbed pickup but it's got a 3.8 buick and a load of spares out back. Haven't broken one yet but have only been out once with them.

well i know one cruiser locally pushin 350+hp and 38's runnin em... 2 years now!! and he's not real friendly on teh skinny pedel!! and Bobby's buggy weighs 4500# with a buick V6 in it... and bobby's got the heaviest foot i've ever seen on a trail... he'll back up and hit something till he makes it... and all i've ever seen him fail was a short side inner shaft..
FYI....desertoys buggy is very similar to mine and i weght 3400 lbs. just about the same weight as a stock pickup. so it is by no means a light weight buggy. also considering he runs it harder than most people even dream possible (imagiane running a trail like the little sluice that is 1/2 mile long) i would not hesitate to put in the superbirf on a equiped runner.
Lucky-
how much does your rig weigh?
bones-
sell your 4 spare birfs for 50 bucks each and your half way to new superbirfs.

It'll have to wait a little while, I have WAY to many other things to buy to finish up what I've started, but who knows what I will pull out of my ass tomorrow :D

a little lighter than your average early 4runner. no fiberglass top, no heavy tailgate and a little less sheet metal than a stocker!!:D
