Welded Center Diffs'...How they holdin' up?

Okay, well I dunno' if many here in the States have done this, but I do know that Mr. Strange has welded his LT230's center diff for part time 4x duties. So how's it holding up? Anyone else?

The welding is holding up fine. And remembering back how rough a job I did its quite suprising.

Anyway my welded center diff broke a rear d44 shaft the other week (4000rpm second gear launches in the rocks :smokin: ) so I guess its strong enough.

Oh yea the gearbox/transfer is a LT95 but the centre diff almost identical.

Good to hear Sam...If Timm C. (over here) doesn't come through with the milled center diff "pucks" then I'll consider welding...He's got a nice design...4 pin (solid, not the "lincon-log" cross pins like stock) broached and anealed (sp?). If I could just convince him that he needs to get off the phone and start fabricating!

Good to hear. Jac Mac over here can make them also although he never has done them before he didnt think that it would be too hard to do. Do you know what Timm C does to support the front output shaft in the centre diff. Does he run it in a bearing (this is what I did) or does he run it in a bush or something. There is a guy on the d90 list with a rig he calls Serious One that was going to do the same part time 4wd mod also. He posted a message that he was going to it and I replied that I had done so and I havent see a post from him since?? do you know this guy??

I'm not totally sure what he's useing to support the front output shaft...I've never had one appart so I'm just guessing, but I would assume he's using a bearing. Timm is a fanatic when it comes to "doing it right"...Which is one of the reasons I like the guy!

Serious One? Yea that's Mike Slade. Great guy. He's got a lot of projects including a 130 expedition vehicle he's calling the "Chuck Wagon"! Can't wait to see that one in action. All of these guy's are part of Quatro Sports...They are not Rover purests, but love the mistique of LR. I'll be sure to post what's what with the center diff puck as soon as I find out.
