In front. It needs to be out to split it behind.

OK, this is a carbed 84, i just removed the 6 bolts BEHIND the shifters tried like hell to seperate, so could drop the unit, but she don't wanna split, now i'm gonna replace the 6 bolts and remove the 6 or 8 bolts in front of the shifters and try to split and drop again.

what do i gotta do once i drop the unit inorder to split the tcase from the tranny tail housing/shifters units?

thanks for your time!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Brian, the six bolts is good, it's just stuck together, bang on it with a rubber mallet or plastic hammer to dislodge the rtv holding it together. You don't want to take the tranny tailhousing off

so your saying i leave the shifters/tail housing up there?

when i had the 6 bolts behind the tail housing I had it split open an inch or so but it did't want split any more than that.

Sounds like you need to pull the stick out first, then it should come right out. (with those 6 bolts out)

yup, if you have a transfer case shifter that sits in your transmission, you gotta pull the shifter off to let the transfer case drop.
