: Need Solution for Seat Belts on Cage

I am going to put on a soft top, but my seat belts are attached to the hard top. I am planning on drilling holes in my cage to move the seat belts but want to find a bracket or other mechanism to do this.

Anyone have any solutions they have used? I know CCOT sells a seat belt package with the brackets, but I already have the belts.

Thanks,

Ken Romer

doesnt the stock cage have a bracket that bolts around the tube? Not positive though..
I have read that drilling holes in your cage is a bad idea, so I wouldnt go that route. I made brackets for my cage out of some steel that I cut and rounded the sides off. Then took my rig to a welding shop near the house and they welded them on for $20.00.

good luck-

I am looking to do the same thing. I have an aftermarket roll bar, and am thinking of using 1/8" or 3/16" steel and making a wrap around the roll bar to bolt to.

My cage isn't stock and I don't have a bracket. Do you have pics of the bracket and how they were welded on?

I appreciate it.

Don't recomend drilling holes in cage, makes weak spots. I mounted all mine by welding tabs to the bars and drilling holes in the tabs. Great flexibility on location. Wish I could show picture but I'm technologically challenged.

with stock seats and stock seatbelts, I don't think that will work. I could get a harness system I guess, but I was hoping to just use my existing seatbelts.

Thanks - Nice looking rig!

Why couldn't you drill a hole through the cage and them slide a sleeve through it and weld the sleeve on both side of the tubing? This is how the stock CJ and YJ cages do it This seems like it would be stonger than just having a tab welded to the cage. Also, it would keep people from hitting their head on the tab that is sticking out in an event of a roll over. This is one of the reasons that I don't like the stock cage setup in cruisers. That bolt-on wrap around brace is just one more spot for someone to get hurt.

I had the same issue a while back and after asking a lot of questions on forums like this, I ended up just drilling a hole through the roll bar and I obviously used high tensile bolts etc.
One suggestion was to also add crush tubes which I have not got arround to doing though.........................Dazz

I am assuming you drilled a hole for the screw and a smaller hole for the guide pin on the assembly that holds the belt. Did you use a bracket on the backside?

Thanks

Yep just a big hole drilled for the bolt and a smaller hole for pin

if your going to drill the cage you will have to weld a sleeve into it to make the cage strong again.... I would just weld a tab on it to bolt to

Since we are on the subject of safety belts. What is the general consensus on the cam-lock harnesses vs regular locks? Don't wanna steal the thread, but didn't figure my question was worth starting another belt thread :flipoff2:

when i had a stock cage I did the sleeved hole .

I like my camlock system on my harnesses because its easier than the classic belt system.

pics of my rusty and dirty cruisers seat belt mount ... albeit slighty covered by the pad. I welded tabs that face back so I dont knock my head on them. Took about an hour to fab up the brackets, and then had them weleded on for $20 at a local shop.
