: 3.0V6 to T100 oilpan swap??
justmyluck 01-06-2002, 10:17 AM I just installed a hysteer set-up and my hydraulic assist on my 91' Toy Xcab. Now the problem..... my ram is only 1" away from the sump in my oilpan.
I remember seeing somewhere on here about a T100 pan that will fit and move the sump to the rear part of the oilpan. A search didn't yield me any help.
Anyone know what pan to use? 2wd?4wd?
Anyone done this?
and
Anybody got a oilpan and pickup they wanna sell?
Thanx
Tom
ToyTech 01-06-2002, 10:40 AM Tom,
You'll want a 2WD T-100 oil pan off of a 3.4L engine. You'll also need the pick-up (strainer in Toyospeak) and gasket, dipstick and tube, oil pan baffle, and a bolt for the new dipstick tube.
HTH! :D
ErikB 01-06-2002, 01:05 PM I thought the oil pan swap was for the Taco guys w/ the 3.4's...
Or does it work on the 3.0's too? And would you be swapping 3.0 parts to 3.0, or 3.4 to 3.0...?
(T100's came w/ 3.0's & 3.4's)

Jim..not to ? your knowledge...
You absolutely sure about this right. The 3.4L stuff will interchange onto the 3.0L. Cause in the morning I'll be on the phone with my buddy at the local Toy dealer.
Hey Jim got any of the part #'s for me? ;)
Eric..I'm not sure what you mean.. "just for the taco guys with 3.4L"
Thanx for the help!!
Tom
ErikB 01-06-2002, 03:48 PM Sorry, I'm basically asking the same thing you are... if the 3.4L stuff will bolt on to the 3.0L... or if you have to stick with 3.0 to 3.0...
ToyTech 01-06-2002, 03:57 PM 3VZ-E and 5VZ-E pans and pick-ups will interchange. I'll have to double check the front-rear sump locations for 2WD vs. 4WD, 3.0 vs. 3.4 liter though, and this may change which dipstick you use too. I can't get any part numbers or double check this until Monday though.
I also just looked at this article
Dan Basham's 4Runner (http://www.outdoorwire.com/4x4/toyota/projects/basham_4runner/)
to confirm the pan interchange.
Erik, both 3.0 and 3.4 T-100s are rear sump, correct? I can't remember :bounce:
ToyTech 01-06-2002, 04:00 PM Okay, I remember looking this up for Robert Cannon and John Vargus a few years back. Here is the information direct from Robert's page:
Another crucial element is replacing the stock Tacoma oil pan with the oil pan from a 3.6l(sic) 2wd T-100. You'll need the windage tray, pick-up tube, dipstick
guide and dipstick to go with the oil pan.
Oil Pan
12101-65030
Plate (windage tray/baffle)
12122-62040
Strainer (pickup tube)
15104-62060
Gasket (for pickup tube)
15147-62020
Dipstick
15301-62060
Guide Tube
11452-62060
Guide Tube Union
9040510033
The T-100 pan moves the sump to the rear allowing use of a straight drag link and hi-steer crossover steering. You'll need the machined knuckles, steering
arms, pitman arm, drag link and tie rod for crossover steering. Apparently the stock hoses that run from the P/S pump to the steering rack in the center of the
truck by the front diff don't reach over to the driver's side frame rail where the IFS box is located for the crossover steering conversion. The fittings will
connect to the IFS box but at least one of the hoses is too short to reach.
So, it looks like you want the 3.4L 2WD T-100 pan and essentials (I'll bet even a 3.0 pan will work too). The dipstick may require a little trial and error method though.

Sounds right.
The only front-sumps are the trucks w/ coil-sprung IFS... I think... right? (Tacomas, 3rd gen 4runners, Tundras, Sequoias...)
OOP'S 01-07-2002, 10:01 AM My 3.0 is a rear sump. :usa:
Hersh 01-07-2002, 10:47 AM This is good to hear!!! With my SAS and hi stear on my 3.0 runner I am 1" away from the sump on my oilpan. We were talking about cutting some of the oil pan away and moving the pickup? I like the sound of a bolt on replacement much better. So, to recap - to go from the 3.0 V6 front sump to a rear I just need to replace with one off of a T100 3.0 OR 3.4 2wd 6? That sound simple enough - expensive new or do you go to the bone yards for this one?

That came stock on your 90 Extracab v6? Was it only the runners that had the font pickup? Does not make sence to me?

You'll still need the pickup tube (strainer) meant for a rear sump application Mike, along with a different dipstick and tube. I'll try to research some part numbers later on today.

Me neither, I will try and take a pic when I get home and post. On full lock under compression my TR has just rubbed the pan. But the main part of the sump is in the back. :usa:
Hersh 01-07-2002, 12:39 PM Even when not turned, I have about 1" from top of DL to bottom of pan. It's ok when flexing but if both tires compress together it hits - even backing out of the driveway. Flipping the sump to rear would do it. I just need a few more inches so the bumpstops can hit first.
Thanks for the help Jim - part numbers would make it easyier.:)
OOP'S 01-07-2002, 04:22 PM Opp's I was wrong. The deepest part of the sump is in the front. Here is a pic of mine and a 4x4 T100. They look the same. :D :usa: :D

So you have the same problem I do - no clearance above the the tie rod and oil pan dip down. If you look do you have a horizontal dent accros it from hitting?
BigBadBob 01-07-2002, 05:29 PM You don't need the baffle. The one that is on there is the same as the one you will buy. You only need the dipstick, union and guide tube if you want an analog dip stick. If you want a digital one, keep your stock one and cut it so it just touches the bottom. You either have enough oil or you don't.
If you choose to use the rear located guide tube you will need to knock out the plug for the union while the pan is off. It won't come off grabbing or prying from the outside.
OOP'S 01-07-2002, 06:51 PM Looking at my FSM the 2 wheel drive pan is different then the 4 wheel. On the 2-wheel the sump and pick up are futher back. The 2-wheel does not have the baffeling that the 4-wheel does and the 2-wheel hold 3 oz less oil. :usa:
justmyluck 01-07-2002, 06:55 PM Opp's your pans the same as mine.
Here's a pic' of my ram and fitting problems:

The rams not mounted in this pic'..that explains why the pin is half way out. I just threw it on to take the pic'.
Now here's my new problem......

20 inches and counting!!!!!
Jim I called my guy at my Toy dealer and had him look up the part #'s you posted. He told me that on the microfiche it shows that the 2WD/T100 3.4L oil pan does have the sump in the rear of the pan. I had him order all the parts. Whatever i don't need, he'll send back. I'll take some pics' for you guys in the next couple of days. He also said that the bolt patterns look similiar in the photos.
Bigbadbob thanx I'll definitely look into using what I can off my truck.
OH! My cost at the Toy dealer for the pan $96 and change.. pan olny all others parts extra.
Thanx Tom
BigBadBob 01-07-2002, 08:57 PM I spent $165 shipped to the door for all of the parts mentioned on Frankentacos website. But I didn't use the union, guide tube, dipstick or baffle. Just my bogus input.
Hersh 01-07-2002, 09:36 PM Post some feedback - I'll be doing mine in the next week or so. Does the cost of the SAS ever stop building up? Everytime I think I'm done...

Man, I hope the pan is 24K gold plated. Check what Big Bad Bob said about using some of your original parts, that way you might be able to save some $$$
I'm picking up my parts in the morning. I'll take some pics' for you guys and let you know how it goes. I wish I was in CA and didn't have to do this on my back in the snow with the temps in the teens. Man i'm gettin' too old for this. :D :usa:
Thanx Tom
raybie 01-10-2002, 03:50 PM took the union out and the new and old look exactly the same. getting it back in is a pain. the baffle i ordered is different from the one that was in my truck.
