Can anyone out there who has done a NV4500 install tell me what to use for the sealant between the cast iron case of the transmission and the aluminum tailhousing/adapter? The dealer shows no gasket and I was wondering if RTV would work? Any success/problems with anytype of sealant???

Thanks!!!

I have tried many but I swear by permatex " The Right Stuff"

It is a polyurathane base and will bridge and seal and in many case it is used instead of gaskets. I have no leaks!

PS... if you purchase it , get the cartridge type dispensor instead of the cheeze- whiz type dispenser ( picture on url) the cartridge type is much easier to re-use.

I will get some tonight. Thanks for the info. Now to decide about the lower range gears from AUS for the split case...

Thanks again...

Although I use Permatex for almost everything else, I do believe that for the cast iron-aluminum surface at the rear of the NV4500 you should use the special anerobic sealer recommended by the manufacurers. Also remember tht the NV uses a special type of lube that is not friendly to standard gasket materials. You can get a small tube of the stuff from Mr. Goodwrench or from a Dodge parts dept. If memory serves me correctly Permatex now makes its own version of the anerobic sealer. Just my $0.02

Autozone, Checkers, Kragen, Parts plus... they all have it.. call firsst. I even saw it a Napa.. They had the Cheese whiz type applicator but better than nothing.
